Social media enthusiasts responded to a contentious exchange on Wednesday between Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert and Democratic Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland regarding government spending.

Following Boebert’s address, Hoyer, the ranking member of the Appropriations Subcommittee of Financial Services & General Government, inquired, “Which funds in this bill support the objectives you oppose?” Boebert asserted, “This is a precautionary measure.” Hoyer pressed, asking, “Precautionary for what?”

Boebert argued that sanctuary city policies contribute to a rise in criminal activity, emphasizing the alleged influx of crime and drugs in these areas. According to Boebert, the policies hinder reporting, as individuals are shielded by what she deems a “fake policy,” undermining the constitutional rule of law in the United States.

Hoyer inquired further, stating, “I understand your point, but you mentioned that none of the funds in this bill are allocated for that purpose. Can you specify which funds in this bill are intended for that objective?”

Boebert contended that the administration has utilized various funds to safeguard illegal aliens. Hoyer countered, asserting that the funds she alluded to were not present in the bill.

“There are no funds allocated in this bill for that purpose. This seems to be an opportunity for you to address an important topic, and I acknowledge that. However, there are no funds in this bill intended to achieve that objective,” Hoyer remarked. He further questioned, “Do you genuinely believe the chairman would allocate funds for that purpose?”

Analysts noted that Boebert’s argument lacked specificity, leading to widespread criticism of her ability and experience as a congress member.

Further reports from a theatergoer who was just a row behind Broeber at the performance further stated, “These people in front of us were outrageous. I’ve never seen anyone act like that before.” This incident has done little to retain her political support.
