Prosecutors in the federal case regarding Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election have reportedly asked witnesses questions about Rudy Giuliani’s drinking habits.

An Advice-Of-Counsel Defense

Questions have reportedly been asked regarding whether or not Trump was aware of Giuliani’s drinking habits while the pair tried to overturn Biden’s victory. The answers to this question could have huge consequences if Trump’s current legal team attempts to use an advice-of-counsel defense.

Compromised by Alcohol

Such a defense would likely claim that the former president was a naive client following advice from his then-lawyer. Naturally, this argument wouldn’t be so strong if it turned out that Trump knew Giuliani’s thinking was potentially compromised by alcohol.

According to senior Trump advisor Jason Miller, Giuliani was “definitely intoxicated” on the night he told people that they needed to say Trump won the election. It’s worth noting that Giuliani denied this. Liz Cheney claimed that Trump “followed the advice of an apparently inebriated Rudy Giuliani.”

Conspiracism and Gullibility

According to The Times, friends and aides of Giuliani say that his drinking boosted and reinforced some of his personal qualities, such as “conspiracism, gullibility, [and] a weakness for grandeur.” Despite this, his advisors claim that the former New York City mayor doesn’t have a drinking problem.

A Flat-Out Lie

Ted Goodman, one such advisor, said: “I’ve been with the mayor on a regular basis for the past year, and the idea that he is an alcoholic is a flat-out lie. The Rudy Giuliani you all see today is the same man who took down the mafia, cleaned up the streets of New York, and comforted the nation following 9/11.”

The Internet’s Response

News of the development was shared across the internet, and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. For the most part, people condemned both the former NYC mayor and the former president.

Trump’s Doomed Defense

Some people celebrated the situation, saying that it clearly means Trump’s defense will fail. Others highlighted Giuliani’s fall from grace, questioning how an individual who seemingly did such a great job as New York City’s mayor could end up like this.

An Uncertain Time

A minority of individuals tried to find humor in the situation, likely trying to cheer people up in an uncertain and anxiety-inducing time. These individuals often made jokes about alcohol, leading them to make bizarre and drastic decisions.

It’s Not the Same Rudy

Responding to Goodman’s statement, one social media commenter said: “Today’s Rudy is not the same Rudy that was NYC’s mayor over twenty years ago. The younger one fought corruption and crime, while today’s version not only encourages it but takes part in the planning of it. Soon to be bankrupt and lucky if not jailed. That’s today’s Rudy.”

A Legitimate Election

Another person wrote: “When will New York University withdraw his law degree? His 15 minutes of fame are over. He participated in a plot to overturn the 2020 election, which he knew was legitimate.”

Orange Lord and Savior

Others compared Giuliani to Trump. “What is there to ask? The man is a drunk. He is delusional, he is an idiot, and he is a grifter and con man like his orange lord and savior – just on a smaller level,” one individual said.

The MAGA Cult

Others implied that Americans are lucky that Trump is so incompetent. One commenter wrote: “Well, if Rudy wasn’t always drunk and Donnie wasn’t crippled by his own narcissism, this nation could be in even more trouble. The MAGA cult only needs capable leadership to destroy democracy.”

A Terrifying Future

Another person said: “Ah, brilliant. Another defense out the window then because, of course, Trump knew about the drinking. If thinking about the future wasn’t scary, this would be very entertaining. Let’s get Trump in prison so we can look back at all of this and laugh.”

A Crumbling Defense

Echoing the aforementioned commenter, another individual wrote: “I’m sorry, but why is this even a question? There is no way that Trump didn’t know. Glad to see the moron’s defense is likely going to crumble, though, like basically every business he’s ever owned.”

Trump Chose His Circle

Another person said: “So is Rudy gonna take the fall completely? I don’t care if advisors said X and Y; it falls on the responsibility of the president at the end of the day. Too bad for him, he had crazy people advising him – but he chose them. And Rudy wasn’t independently going about this plan. Trump maybe didn’t coordinate the details, but he was the one directing his people to carry out this scheme.”

A Fall From Grace

Others discussed Giuliani’s “fall from grace.” One such commenter said: “What a fall from grace. Once America’s Mayor, [now a] laughing stock who could end up in prison. All because he hitched his horse to a man who will watch him get handcuffed to save his own skin.”

An Absolute Circus

One person made a prediction about the future of the trial. They wrote: “This is going to be an absolute [circus] for sure. I don’t think anyone being charged has much integrity, and why would anyone want to take the fall for Trump? My guess is they are going to throw each other under the bus.”

Committing Some Light Treason

Some people joked about the situation, likely trying to find humor in it to combat the anxiety felt by many Americans regarding the near future. One such individual said: “Everyone’s been there. You get a little drunk and conspire with the homies to overthrow the government, maybe commit some light treason.”
