Donald Trump NFTs from his second collection have experienced a whopping 350% sales increase, according to OpenSea.
Speaker of the House
The surge came as multiple members of the House discussed the possibility of the criminal defendant and former president taking up the position of Speaker of the House following Kevin McCarthy’s historic removal.
Donald Trump’s Response
Trump has remained relatively neutral in regard to the speaker role. In a press statement, he reportedly said: “All I can say is we will do whatever is best for the country and the Republican Party and people.”
A Heroic Leader
Trump’s first collection of NFTs also saw success, including a 300% increase in sales when Melania Trump’s NFT collection was released. His newly released set maintains the theme of the previous collection, portraying the former president in exaggerated situations likely meant to present him as a heroic leader.
The Internet’s Response
News of the sales increase was shared across the internet, and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. Some people mocked the criminal defendant, joking about how the money might help with his court bills.
A Slippery Slope
Others discussed the Speaker of the House talk. These individuals left comments about how bizarre and almost dystopian it feels to have politicians suggest a criminal defendant take up the role. They left stark warnings about how it could be a slippery slope ending in a far-right authoritarian state.
Going off Topic
Trump’s supporters showed up from time to time, leaving comments congratulating the former president on the sales increase. Others, going completely off topic, criticized President Joe Biden and his family.
A Fool and His Money
One social media commenter wrote: “The only thing I can say is about the people who purchase these – a fool and his money are soon parted. I think Sam Bankman-Fried might have some cryptocurrency you can buy.”
A Potential Value Increase
Another individual advised people to hold onto the NFTs in case they become more valuable. They wrote: “Hold those NFTs until after Trump’s conviction and jail term, and they may become even more valuable after he becomes the first American president ever convicted of being a common criminal.”
Buying Worthless Junk
One person criticized the American public. “Too many gullible Americans love spending money on worthless junk. Then they complain that the economy is horrible, it’s in a terrible recession, and they can’t afford to buy food to eat or the medicines they need,” they said.
A Self-Centered Man
In response to Trump’s press statement, one commenter wrote: “Trump ain’t doing a thing that’s best for the country. Why do you think he is selling NFTs? Making a dime off the dummies who buy them. Trump’s looking out for himself and no one else.”
Busy in Court
Responding to calls from the far-right for Trump to take up the Speaker of the House position, one person commented: “Trump’s gonna be busy with court for the foreseeable future. You know, with the ‘fake indictments’ with the possibility of ‘fake jail’ and absolutely being ‘fake broke,’ that will most probably also lead to a ‘fake divorce.’”
Hilarity Would Continue
People pointed out that Trump would likely make a worse speaker than he did as president. One person said: “The speaker’s job is all about parliamentary procedure and setting up a legislative agenda. These are things Trump would be terrible at. He would hate the job, and GOP House members would hate his incompetence around it. Hilarity would continue.”
Breaking the Rules
Others pointed out that the current rules prohibit the criminal defendant from taking up the speaker role. “Trump can’t be the next speaker. Currently, the House rules prevent it from occurring. In theory, it can be changed. But right now, he can’t. The fact these idiots bring it up now shows they don’t even know their own rules,” one individual said.
Let’s Do It
Some people supported the idea. One such person commented: “He would have to speak a lot in public, as well as keep things organized in the chamber. It would show how bad his cognitive decline really is and make him weaker for the 2024 election. So let’s do it.”
A Star Warning
Some commenters left chilling warnings. “Please correct me if I’m wrong here, but my understanding is it goes President > Vice President > Speaker of the House in the context of lines of succession. If they place Trump here, we really need to be careful they don’t try some funny business with the only two remaining people in his way of taking the White House again,” one person said.
An Acting President
Echoing the aforementioned commenter, another individual wrote: “It’s not about them getting him into the role to stay as speaker. They want to [make him speaker] and oust Biden and Harris so they can put Trump back in power as acting president.”
A Conspiracy Against the U.S.
The commenter continued: “This isn’t a new conspiracy against our country. The coup attempt never stopped. If anything, everyone involved with this conspiracy in a position in the House should be reported to those investigating Trump for election interference and Jan 6th.”
A MAGA Opinion
Despite the criticism and terrifying theories, some of Trump’s fans popped up in comment sections too. One said: “Congratulations to President Trump for another successful business endeavor. An inspiration to all. And yes, make him Speaker of the House!”
