“Childish in Many Ways”: Marjorie Taylor Greene Can’t Stop Embarrassing Herself

Numerous figures in politics and the media, including CNN’s Jake Tapper, have criticized the Georgia congresswoman’s attempt to formally chastise her Michigan colleague for being insincere.

Never Been the People’s Person in Washington

Marjorie Taylor Greene has never been a popular person in Washington due to her stories about Jewish laser beams, assaults on school shooting survivors, support of QAnon, and general “I’ll tell YOU when I’ve had enough wine coolers” vibes. Nevertheless, she had several far-right congressional allies who were ready to put up with her for a while. Right now? Not at all!

Since the beginning of the current hostilities between Israel and Hamas, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the sole American of Palestinian descent in Congress, has received a lot of criticism, including some criticism from her own party.

Greene Accuses Tlaib of “Antisemitic Activity”

There’s a chance that a resolution denouncing Tlaib may pass with some Democratic backing. Nonetheless, Tlaib is charged with “antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex” in a censure resolution released last week by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). However, Greene does not argue that the congresswoman from Michigan has carried out any one of the three.

Greene Draws a Contrast With Jan 6 Insurrection

Greene is comparing it to the January 6 uprising, for which she has been a prominent defense attorney. However, there are several significant distinctions between that and the events that transpired at the Capitol office building last week. Firstly, the latter was a much smaller, nonviolent protest that did not involve any window-breaking or breaking into the offices of Congress members. Secondly, it was not intended to obstruct a congressional proceeding.

“Way Too Easy for Democrats to Vote Against” the Resolution

Naturally, Greene has also been charged with antisemitism. Regarding Greene’s proposal, a Democratic insider told Axios that it would be “way too easy for Democrats to vote against it now. If a normal person did it, we’d be in a tough spot.”

Greene’s Resolution “Twists a Bunch of Things That She Said Beyond Recognition”

In a CNN program over the weekend, CNN presenter Jake Tapper, who is reporting from Israel, attacked Greene’s resolution. According to Tapper, the resolution seemed as though it was penned by someone who had only just heard about the Arab-Israeli issue ten minutes prior, and may not have even had access to Wikipedia. Greene’s resolve, he continued, “twists a bunch of things that she said beyond recognition.” The resolution appears to be “much more focused on January 6 than it does on October 7,” according to Tapper as well.

Antisemitism Is Not a Cudgel to Be Used Against People

As he was ending his program, Tapper stated, “Antisemitism is not a cudgel to be used against people for political points, nor is Islamophobia, racism, anti-gay behavior, misogyny, or any other kind of bigotry.” “Just over three weeks ago, 1,400 people, mostly Jews, mostly civilians, were slaughtered here in some of the cruelest and most unimaginable ways in the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.” Tapper even used a rare obscenity to end his remarks.

Greene “Repeatedly Fanned the Flames of Racism and Other Forms of Hatred”

A vote on a resolution that Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) had presented earlier this year to condemn Greene for the numerous offensive remarks the Georgia congresswoman has made over the years was forced last week. “Repeatedly fanned the flames of racism, antisemitism, LGBTQ hate speech, Islamophobia, anti-Asian hate, xenophobia, and other forms of hatred,” was how Balint’s resolution attacked Greene.

Balint’s resolution specifically attacked Greene for her appearance at a white nationalist conference, her comparison of COVID-era mandates to Nazi treatment of Jews, and the fact that she “peddled a vile antisemitic trope when she claimed that wildfires in California were caused by space lasers operated by members of the Jewish community.”

Childish in Many Ways

Representative Troy Nehls, who has previously supported Greene, described her assaults on Roy as “childish in many ways” in an interview with the Daily Beast. “What do you feel you’re accomplishing there, you know?”

Creating Her Own Enemies

“Through unprovoked, unwarned, and unsubstantiated attacks, she’s creating her own enemies,” a Republican who was formerly an ally of Greene stated to the publication. “Embarrassing herself through launching attacks she later has to retract due to their inaccuracies.”

Building Herself up While Tearing Others Down

“There is no one I have heard from, dozens of members, who are happy with her, that trust her [or] confide in her,” stated a third person who was “once close” to the Georgia representative. This GOP member remarked, “She’s continually seeking attention, building herself up while tearing others down. I have cut ties completely.”

Stupid Gossip Blog

When questioned about her lack of recognition in Washington, DC, Greene told the Daily Beast she wouldn’t talk to a “stupid gossip blog.” Regretfully, even while Greene might not get along with many of her congressional colleagues, she is still well-liked at MAGA headquarters, where she is supposedly on the “short list” of potential vice presidential candidates.

Possibility of the Government Shutting Down

According to Newsweek, Connecticut Representative Rosa DeLauro erred when she speculated about the prospect of a government shutdown in the hours following the legislation’s passage in the House.

Greene swiftly took exception to DeLauro’s remarks and criticized her colleague’s remarks made on the House floor. However, DeLauro taught Greene “another awkward lesson about the U.S. political system” even if Greene was in the wrong.

On the House floor, Greene made fun of Representative DeLauro by saying, “My Democratic colleague across the aisle, who is 80 years old and has been here over 30 years just said we’re on the verge of a shutdown.”

We Are Not on the Verge of a Shutdown

Greene continued, not comprehending that the shutdown had not yet been prevented. “She probably just forgot that she voted for the continuing resolution that will extend the budget and we are not on the verge of a shutdown,” he said.

DeLauro Doesn’t Take Greene’s Insult Lying Down

DeLauro was not going to allow Greene’s views to go unanswered, and she responded to her colleague’s remarks magnificently, outlining how the legislative branch of the US government operated to enact laws.

DeLauro noted that another branch of the U.S. Congress still needed to make its own decisions about the new spending legislation, according to the New Republic’s explanation of the issue.

Gentlelady Doesn’t Know

“It may be that the gentlelady doesn’t know that there is another body attached to the U.S. Congress called the United States Senate, and they have to vote on the continuing resolution,” DeLauro said.

Flawed to a Fare Thee Well

“And when they vote on it, we’ll find out what they do with regard to this continuing resolution passed by the House, which quite frankly is flawed to a fare thee well,” DeLauro said, going over the procedure for passing legislation.
