House Speaker Mike Johnson has been urged by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene to form a new select committee in order to look into the violence that occurred at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Attack’s 1000 Hour Footage to Be Released

On Friday, Johnson announced his intention to make thousands of hours of assault video available to the public. This would fulfill a promise he made to conservative GOP members last month during his campaign for the position, which came after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed from office. The first 44,000 hours of surveillance footage were made available on a public committee website on Friday. The remaining material is anticipated to be published over the next few months.

Releasing the Tapes Is Not Enough!

“Releasing the tapes is not enough!” Georgia Republican Greene said on Sunday in a post on X, previously Twitter. “There needs to be investigations and ACCOUNTABILITY for ALL of the lies, deceit, and lives ruined. Every member of the Jan 6th committee, Nancy Pelosi, FBI, DOJ [Department of Justice], DC Police, Cap[itol] Police, Jan 6 witnesses who lied, all need to be subpoenaed.”

According to Greene, “criminal referrals MUST be written and prosecutions MUST happen under a Trump DOJ.” “I’ve said it all along, MAGA did not do this.” Greene and Johnson have been contacted by Newsweek via email for comments.

Fight Like Hell

Republicans, particularly followers of the late President Donald Trump, view the tapes’ release as a means of reframing the events leading up to the Capitol riot following the conclusions of a House January 6 committee last year. Composed of two Republicans and seven Democrats, its members devoted months to recording how Trump incited his followers to “fight like hell” at the Capitol when Congress was accrediting Democrat Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

Trump Engaged in a “Multi-Part Conspiracy”

The committee’s extensive final report, which was made public in December of last year, said that Trump had participated in a “multi-part conspiracy” to thwart the legitimate election results in 2020 and had done nothing to prevent his allies from storming the Capitol. The former president, who is by far the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, has always denied any wrongdoing and said that the prosecution is a political witch hunt.

Trump Pleads Not Guilty to Four Felony Counts

The committee suggested that federal prosecutors look into four charges against Trump, one of which was inciting an uprising. Regarding his involvement in the attack, the Department of Justice accused Trump of four criminal charges in August. Along with the allegations in three other criminal instances, Trump has entered a not-guilty plea. It’s uncertain how his presidential campaign will fare if a fresh commission is formed to look into what happened on January 6, 2021.

Trump Did “Engage in Insurrection”

Trump did “engage in insurrection” on January 6, 2021, according to a Colorado court that dismissed an attempt to remove him off the state’s primary ballot on Friday. This is due to the ambiguity surrounding the application of a Civil War-era Constitutional amendment that forbade insurrectionists from holding public office to the president.

No One Believes Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Interested in Truth About January 6

Newsweek was informed by Costas Panagopoulos, a political science professor at Northeastern University, that Greene’s call is “most likely, this is a political stunt to delay resolution and to muddy public opinion on the matter.” “No one really believes Marjorie Taylor Greene is interested in the truth about January 6.”

Greene Is “Playing to the Base”

Greene is “playing to the base,” according to Thomas Gift, an associate professor of political science and the head of University College London’s Center on U.S. Politics. “The move “will be looked at with disgust and enmity from her many critics,” Gift told Newsweek of the change. “But those aren’t the voters she’s trying to court. As long as the MAGAverse is behind her (and they are), that’s all that matters.”

Go Ahead and Do It

Republicans might suffer from a new committee, according to some social media users. One X user responded to Greene, saying, “Quite frankly, I believe the Jan 6 committee held back a lot of incriminating evidence against people like you. Go ahead and do it. This will backfire on Republicans just like all of your other stupid stunts.”

Your Attempt at Gaslighting Is Moronic

“The whole f world saw the 1/6 violent attack on the Capitol, on television, in real-time,” another commenter on X said. How do you disprove everything just because there was a nonviolent part? This is a ridiculous effort at gaslighting.”

What Was Your Role?

Another replied, questioning why Greene had supposedly asked for a pardon, saying that the “proof of what happened on that day is overwhelming”. “Why would you ask for a pardon if you were innocent? What was your role?” they penned. Greene’s plea was echoed by others, who said that it “absolutely must be done.”

Their Probe Into Biden Backfired Spectacularly

Another person remarked, “I mean their probe into Biden backfired spectacularly. We can just immediately dismiss the entire accusation now, because the very best evidence the house put forward was blatantly falsified. And we get the double whammy of AOC being the one to point it out. AOC was either Smarter or less corrupt than any house republican currently in Congress. And they don’t get to say otherwise.”

Online Sleuths Tracking Down Insurrectionist

“A bunch of online sleuths tracking down insurrectionist have been asking for this footage too, This is going to lead to a ton of previously unidentified people catching charges as they are brought to light,” observed one person.

Another lauded the efforts of the online sleuths, saying, “People doing good work for the betterment of the country. Let’s see how many more can be found and face the judgement of the laws they claim to have been fighting for. I bet a few of the ones who haven’t been caught yet still think they’ve totally gotten away with it.”

Greene Was the Inspiration and Model for “Killer Klowns From Outer Space”

Someone took a dig at Greene saying, “Fun fact: Marjorie Taylor Greene was the inspiration and model for most of the Klowns in “Killer Klowns from Outer Space.” They modeled the pervert Klown after Speaker of the House “**** Hub Mikey” Johnson.” To which, another agreed, “There is overwhelming evidence of this.”
