The Inside with Jen Psaki show has recently emphasized the potential dangers associated with a second term for President Trump. Psaki highlights the perceived escalation in Trump’s rhetoric, describing it as increasingly ominous and disconnected. She cautions that a reelected Trump might wield authority without adherence to legal constraints. The question arises: are Psaki’s warnings merely fear-mongering, or do they hold genuine merit?
We Need to Start Listening
Psaki opened her show by saying Democrats and voters may feel more relaxed after their recent election wins, referencing Ohio and Virginia. She warned that we should all be apprehensive as Trump still poses a significant risk to Democracy, and everyone should be listening to Trump’s veiled warnings.
The Threat Is Still Very Real
Psaki said, “The threat of a second Trump term is still very real, and some of the things we have heard him say right now are some of the most concerning things we have ever heard him say. It’s important for everyone to really start listening.”
He Will Wield Power However He Chooses
She played a video of Trump in an interview, “If they are beating me, go down and indict them.” Psaki described what Trump was saying in the interview. She added, “Trump is forecasting that in his second term, he will wield power however he chooses, unconstrained by the rule of law. This is some truly scary, authoritarian, banana republic-type stuff.”
Root Out the Radical Left “Vermin”
Psaki then shared Trump’s Truth social post that stated his opponents are like vermin and should be rooted out. The post was made on Veterans Day. Trump’s post read, “In honor of our great Veterans on Veteran’s Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists, and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country, lie, steal, and cheat on Elections, and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American dream.”
Language Associated With Hitler on Veterans Day
Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa spoke out against Trump’s post. She released a statement saying, “On a weekend when most Americans were honoring our nation’s heroes, Donald Trump parroted the autocratic language of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini — two dictators many US veterans gave their lives fighting, in order to defeat exactly the kind of un-American ideas Trump now champions,”
Nazi Racial Ideology
On the US Holocaust memorial museum website, in the very first paragraph of an article titled ‘VICTIMS OF THE NAZI ERA: NAZI RACIAL IDEOLOGY’ it states, “Driven by a racist ideology that regarded Jews as ‘parasitic vermin’ worthy only of eradication, the Nazis implemented genocide on an unprecedented scale.”
RNC Won’t Comment on Campaign Messaging
RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel was asked in a recent interview for her opinion on Trump’s post. She said, “I am not going to comment on candidates and their campaign messaging. I know Trump supports the veterans and I know our whole party supports the veterans.”
Straight Out of the Nazi Playbook
Heather Digby Parton wrote an op-ed for Truthout titled, “Trump’s Threat to Handle the ‘Vermin’ Is Straight Out of the Nazi Playbook.” In her op-ed, she wrote, “Today, Trump is on the stump threatening daily to exact revenge on his political enemies, which includes Democrats, the press, election officials, the Department of Justice and anyone else he believes has crossed him. It is the main theme of his campaign.”
Blatantly Using the Language of Nazi Germany
She continued her op-ed – “But calling these enemies vermin takes it to a whole new level and one which has even more resonance than usual with the current discussion of antisemitism. He’s now blatantly using the language of Nazi Germany to degrade and dehumanize Jews in the 1930s.”
A Nazi-Style Administration
“It’s clear that Trump and his henchmen are planning a Nazi-style administration, and they aren’t trying to hide it,” Heather Digby Parton wrote.
Trump Plans to Deploy Army Once Elected
In her show, Psaki then shared the Washington Post article that claimed Trump plans to deploy the army to the streets immediately after being reelected by invoking the Insurrection Act and launching investigations into his rivals who have criticized him, including judges and attorneys.
Giant Camps and Deportations
She also talked about Trump’s plan to enact sweeping raids of undocumented immigrants, giant camps and mass deportations.
Echoing Rhetoric of Hitler
Mehdi Hasan of MSNBC also took to Twitter to comment on Trump’s latest plans. He wrote, “From punishing his political opponents to locking up immigrants in camps to deploying the military – all while echoing the hateful rhetoric of Hitler – we know what we can expect if [Trump] retakes the White House.”
Plans to Unravel the Rule of Law
“If elected to a second term, Donald Trump would prosecute anyone he deems an enemy, unleash troops on protesters, and essentially unravel the rule of law as we know it,” warned Psaki.
Biden May Trip Over, He’s Not Perfect
Psaki persisted in advocating for Biden as the sole option in the Presidential campaign. She emphasized that, despite being only a few years older than Trump and occasionally prone to stumbling over things, Biden is not without flaws, but no candidate is perfect. “Look, there’s a lot to be concerned about right now when it comes to a second Trump term,” she continued to argue.
Speeches Are More Unhinged
“The speeches are getting much more disturbing and much more unhinged, and we should all hear it that way. It’s also important to talk about all of this and important to call it out. But there is nothing more important than digging into his actual plans,” she explained.
He Is Warning Us
Psaki stated that Trump was already warning of things to come through his speeches and actions, and that people “just need to listen.”
They’re Both Incompetent
People posted on social media in reaction to the show. One user posted, “Neither Trump nor Biden should be prez. They’re both incompetent in their own ways. We all need to move on.”
Fear-Mongering to Steer the Masses
Another user posted, “Psaki truly has one card to play. Fear mongering to steer the masses.”
