“A Moment of Crushing Irony”: Calls for Biden To Be Banned From the Internet

President Biden has been accused of trying to stifle free speech and spreading falsehoods on the internet, and a court has found he did so at least on one occasion, over covid — now, a growing number of people are calling for the commander in chief to be banned from the internet.

Leaked State Department Memo

In an article for The Messenger website, Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley argues that based on a recent internal State Department memo that was leaked to the media, President Biden, a Democrat, should indeed be prohibited from meddling with the internet.

The leaked memo revealed, somewhat shockingly, writes Turley in his Messenger article, that even some people in the Biden administration have accused their boss of “spreading misinformation.”

The State Department memo makes the allegation that Biden is “spreading misinformation” relating to the newly erupted war in the Middle East, between Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas, according to the Axios news outlet, which obtained the internal document.

The memo, which runs to five pages and was signed by 100 State Department and other officials, points to a speech President Biden gave on October 10 that was in support of Israel. It did not, however, provide an actual example of how the president was allegedly spreading falsehoods.

Israel-Hamas War

Hamas fired thousands of rockets into Israel on October 7, taking Israeli intelligence agencies by surprise and overwhelming Israel’s US-backed Iron Dome missile shield. At least 1,200 people died in the early morning strike on the Jewish nation, in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the country’s 9/11, referring to the suicide attacks on the US in September 2001 that killed around 3,000 people.

Israel’s response to the worst attack in the country’s history was to launch an all-out attack on Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip. Ongoing fighting and bombardments by the Israeli Defense Forces has claimed the lives of at least 11,000 people, mostly Palestinians in Gaza, aid organizations say.

The leaked State Department memo says President Biden should not just wholly accept and support Israel’s war against Hamas but question its strategy amid a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza that has forced around 1 million people from their homes.

‘Crushing Irony’

In his Messenger article, Turley said of the memo that it was “a moment of crushing irony for some of us who have written and testified against the Biden administration’s censorship efforts.”

Ban Biden?

Turley continued, referring to the internet: “The question is whether, under the administration’s own standards, President Biden should now be banned or blacklisted to protect what his administration has called our ‘cognitive infrastructure.’”

Court Ruling

A federal appeals court ruled in September that the Biden administration was most likely in breach of the First Amendment to the Constitution, guaranteeing freedom of speech, in its efforts to force social media companies to clamp down on content relating to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Biden administration “coerced or significantly encouraged social media platforms to moderate content” over false covid information, the federal appeals court ruled.

‘No Principles’

Commenting on Turley’s article on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, one person, Robert Marley, suggested it was all the media’s fault.

“We had principles — once. Not sure where or when it became party over principles, but it has,” he said. “Perhaps it was the death of the fourth estate that allowed those in power to control the information, or it could have been academia that forced homogeneous think. Sad. But good article.”

Biden ‘No Leader’

Someone else on X, woramirez, said of President Biden and his alleged spreading of misinformation: “YES, ban him!! He is no leader, never has been! He has a long track record of being a liar! Now we know he’s a thief!”

‘Washed-Up Biden’

Another person on X, going by the name twent, offered: “This is how a corrupt washed up politician was deemed ‘reasonable’ to replace Donald Trump. Since they dictated the outcome of 2020, they will never back down or change their tune, only get more and more absurd.”

Biden, Blinken Israel Trips

Both President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have made trips to Israel to show their support for the country and its war against Hamas. Blinken has gone further than his boss in the White House, asking that Prime Minister Netanyahu and his newly formed War Cabinet pause their military action to allow humanitarian aid to get to people in Gaza.
