“That Woman Is as Power-Hungry and Fame-Hungry as They Come”: Meghan Markle Reportedly Eyeing Up Political Career

Following Californian Senator Dianne Feinstein’s death, Meghan Markle’s name has been thrown into the mix as a potential replacement.

Crazier Things Have Happened

Reportedly, speculation about Markle seeing out the last 13 months of Feinstein’s term began within an hour and a half of the senator’s death. “Meghan is definitely a long-shot, but in the craziness that is U.S. politics these days, it’s not an impossibility. Crazier things have happened,” said a Democrat donor with close ties to Californian Governor Gavin Newsom.

Choosing a Black Woman

Governor Newsom essentially has the power to pick anyone he likes to replace Feinstein until the next election. Reportedly, he’s pledged to choose a Black woman. “The problem he now faces is that all the best candidates have already announced they will be running for Feinstein’s seat in November 2024, the next election,” a source close to the governor said, according to The Daily Mail.

An Unfair Advantage

The source continued: “Governor Newsom cannot elect any of those candidates to the position now as it would be seen as a huge, and very unfair, advantage. If he puts any of the very good Black women candidates in the job now, he will be accused of favoritism.”

A Narrow Pool of Candidates

The source concluded: “So he needs to find a woman of color who can do the job for 13 months and will agree to not stand against any of the seasoned politicians who have already thrown their hats into the ring. There are not that many women who fit the bill, which is why Meghan’s name is being bandied about.”

A Huge Interest in Politics

Reportedly, Markle is close friends with Gloria Steinem, a prominent Democrat voice. According to The Daily Mail, a friend of Steinem’s said: “Gloria has been introducing Meghan to pivotal people within the party. Meghan is interested in politics more than anything else. That’s where she believes her power is, but she has had to focus on making money.”

The Internet’s Response

News of the buzz around Markle’s potential move into politics was shared across the internet, and commenters were divided. Some people expressed hatred toward her, citing aspects of her personality in an attempt to validate their perceptions.

A Fresh New Voice

Others welcomed the idea, suggesting that Markle could be a fresh new voice – something the political sphere definitely needs. Some commenters, on the other hand, mocked her and implied that she wasn’t intelligent enough for such a career.

Not Very Likely

Some people doubted the rumors, pointing to the fact that Markle seems to be perfectly content in the life she’s built with her husband. These individuals often blamed the speculation on right-wing media.

A Novelty Appointment

One social media commenter wrote: “By who? This is nothing but right-wingers tilting at windmills. Newsom’s biggest goal is the presidency. He will not tarnish that with a novelty appointment to the Senate.”

MAGA Rage Bait

Another person, also doubting the rumors, said: “Absolutely no way this is happening. This is rage bait designed to get racist MAGAs angry. They hate her for no logical reason. The media just wants clicks.”

Markle and the Monarchy

Others called out the media for its reporting of the speculation. One individual said: “I’m sorry, but why are articles calling her left-wing? She may be liberal, but you cannot be left-wing and pro-monarchy. Sorry.”

Power and Fame Hungry

Another individual said: “I wouldn’t put it past her. That woman is as power-hungry and fame-hungry as they come. She wasn’t a good actor, so she married a royal. She couldn’t cope with the negative attention, so she fled to another country looking for positive attention. She didn’t get it, so now she’s going after power.”

Echoing the aforementioned commenter, another person said: “It sounds ridiculous, but it checks out. She always loved fame and attention. Makes sense that she’d love and crave power, too. It’s unlikely to actually happen, but I also wouldn’t be surprised.”

A Fake Story

Another person wrote: “My initial instinct was that this is nothing more than a fake story designed to get people angry. But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if there could be some truth to it. I never hated Meghan like so many people seemed to. I never really had an opinion, to be honest. But, from what I’ve seen of her, I have no trouble imagining her wanting a political career.”

An Idiot Governor

Others weren’t as kind with their words. One such individual said: “Ha! As if she has a sliver of the intelligence required to forge a career in politics. The woman probably doesn’t even know basic math. Have you looked at her? Have you heard her speak? This isn’t happening, and if it does, Newsom is more of an idiot than I thought.”

A Conflict of Interest

Another individual wrote: “I know we’re friends with the UK, but, like, isn’t her having a royal title in another country a conflict of interest or something? I’m no expert, but I feel like it must be. Could the King force her to give up important information? Again, I know that wouldn’t happen. Just a hypothetical thought.”

A Confident Woman

Others challenged people to explain why they resent Markle so much. One such commenter wrote: “Just because she has an interest in politics doesn’t mean she wants to work in politics. And, even if she did, so what? What’s so terrible about a successful Black woman confident in her abilities? Why does that scare you so much?”

Successful and Happy

Echoing the aforementioned commenter, another person said: “Ah, right-wingers. They just love any excuse to hate on a successful, happy, Black woman, don’t they? Stop believing everything you read. This obviously isn’t happening.”
