Donald Trump was hit with a gag on order in his civil trial after making a personal attack against a court clerk.
Trump’s Trial
The former president faces a $250 million civil fraud trial in New York following a long-term investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. This case stems from James’ lawsuit accusing the former president, his sons Eric and Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump Organization of filing fraudulent financial statements that inflated the value of several properties and assets by billions of dollars for financial perks.
Judge’s Ruling
Last week, Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that the information was sufficient and said Trump’s behavior constituted fraud.
Trump’s Response To Legal Problems
Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly insisted he is innocent of all crimes he is accused of. He has gone as far as to suggest his recent legal troubles are part of a political witch hunt. Speaking on social media, he has also launched attacks on political figures, attorneys and judges.
Trump Post About Clerk
In another attack that has since been deleted, Trump took to Truth Social to criticize Engoron’s clerk, attorney Allison Greenfield. The former president shared a photo of Greenfield where she appeared with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Trump insisted this was grounds for the case to be dismissed and, without evidence, suggested the two were romantically involved.

“Schumer’s girlfriend, Alison R. Greenfield, is running this case against me. How disgraceful! This case should be dismissed immediately, “Trump wrote on Tuesday as the trial was ongoing.
Judge’s Response to Truth Social Post
Judge Engoron followed up by issuing a gag order for both Trump and his legal team. This order bars them from publicly discussing members of his staff. He also warned that a violation of this order would result in “swift and meaningful sanctions”. However, the judge did not explain what these sanctions would be.

“This morning one of the defendants posted to his social media account a disparaging, untrue and personally identifying post about a member of my staff,” Engoron said. “Personal attacks on members of my court staff are unacceptable and inappropriate, and I won’t tolerate it,” “Consider this statement a gag order forbidding all parties from posting emailing or speaking publicly about any of my staff.”
Judge’s Warning
Engoron also said he had previously warned Trump “off the record” on Monday about making such comments. After Trump made the post, Engoron ordered him to delete the post and it was quickly removed from Trump’s Truth Social Page.

Trump has continued to defend himself on social media and continued to attack Letitia James, as she is not considered a member of the judge’s staff. The judge found that Trump had also inflated the value of his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida by at least 2,300%. Trump’s latest Truth Social Posts have argued against this and he has insisted the estate is worth over a billion dollars.
