A few weeks ago, as Trump battled with a Washington DC court to lift a gag order, he posted about his “final battle” in the 2024 election online. In the colorful rant, he called his supporters to his side. A recent analysis of Trump’s post explains how his tone and messaging reached out to his most loyal followers to take action, his most faithful followers being White Evangelicals.

Former President Donald Trump posted on his social platform Truth Social, “2024 is our final battle. With you at my side, we will demolish the Deep State.”

His post continued to read, “We will expel the warmongers from our government, we will drive out the globalists, we will cast out the Communists, Marxists, and Fascists, we will throw off the sick political class that hates our Country, we will rout the Fake News Media.”

Trump’s post continued to attack President Biden after promises that he would “cast out” his adversaries. Trump wrote, “We will evict Joe Biden from the White House, and we will FINISH THE JOB ONCE AND FOR ALL!”

“Cast Out” Provoking Amens From His Most Loyal

In a recent analysis by Sarah Posner, an MSNBC columnist, she states that “Trump’s use of “cast out” will provoke amens from his most loyal constituency: white evangelicals.” She also explains in her piece that “cast out” is the “sort of term” that is predominantly used “by evangelicals, Pentecostals and charismatic Christians to describe the exorcism of demons.”

Right-Wing Anti-communism

MSNBC’s Posner also explained that Donald Trump is aware “that these communities remain steeped in the fervent, right-wing anti-communism of the Cold War era, in which communism, socialism, and Marxism were deemed not only anti-American, but anti-Christian.”

Liberals Are Communists and Marxists

She further explained that upon the fall of communism, the leading figures of the evangelical movement “reshaped their McCarthyist arguments to falsely accuse any liberal or progressive, such as former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, of being a communist, socialist and/or Marxist.”

Posner claimed that “when Trump says ‘Communists, Marxists, and Fascists,’ he doesn’t mean actual communists or fascists. He means Democrats.”

A Socialist Red Army

Posner highlighted a quote by David Noebel, who she described as “a leading figure in developing curricula to teach evangelicals about the supposed clash between the ‘Christian worldview’ and ‘secular humanism’ and ‘Marxism-Leninism.’” The quote from 2010 read, “Most Americans are totally unaware that the US House of Representatives crawls with a large, well-organized assembly of Socialist organizations.”

Christian Patriots Must Wage “Spiritual Warfare.”

Posner also wrote that “Trump’s evangelical base believes God ordained America as a Christian nation, that the Christian nation is under attack by internal, satanic enemies (including the so-called communists), and that Christian patriots must wage ‘spiritual warfare’ against these demonic forces to restore the America God intended.”

Posner also claimed in her piece that numerous individuals believe that Trump has been divinely chosen to rescue America during this pivotal period in its history, and Trump’s evangelical supporters have been strategically preparing to shift this ostensibly spiritual arena into the realm of politics.

Trump on an Assignment From God

She then pointed to a claim that Trump’s spiritual adviser Paula White had made, where she stated the White House was “holy ground.” White had reportedly claimed that God had provided Trump with an assignment, and she prayed that Trump would “scatter” every “demonic network.”

Paula White had prayed many times in support of Trump, as reported by Posner. The columnist highlighted the following quote from White, at the time when Trump was facing his first impeachment, “any persons, entities, that are aligned against the president, will be exposed and dealt with and overturned by the superior blood of Jesus.”

Put on the Whole Armor of God

Trump’s evangelical supporters are widely reported on, in particular in their attendance at the infamous ReAwaken America tours. In 2022, Frontline, in partnership with the AP, said that during the tour, a speaker had reportedly told the evangelical audience, “We’re under warfare.” The tour attendees were also informed that it was time to “put on the whole armor of God.” Both reporters were escorted from the tour separately by ReAwaken America officials.

Kristin Kobes Du Mez, a history professor at Calvin University in Michigan, had claimed the ReAwaken America Tours were “a pep rally on spiritual steroids.”

The Guardian, in 2023, has also reported on the ReAwaken America tours, calling them “a Trump-adoring, right-wing roadshow.” The article wrote that evangelicals and MAGA supporters who had reportedly paid up to $500 for a “VIP” ticket would “be treated to speeches from the far-right stormtroopers of the Trump revolution.”

Evangelical Pastors Carry Trump’s Message

During a ReAwakening rally, Pastor Mark Burns, a fervent supporter of Trump, referenced the Bible to imply that using force is necessary to seize power, delivering his message before a gathering of Trump’s most dedicated followers.

The pastor declared that the “Bible says the violent take it… and we take it by force,” referencing Matthew 11:12, which reads, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.”

Johnson “All-In” for Trump 2024

Posner concluded her analysis of Trump’s recent rhetoric by stating, “The entire effort to overturn the election was nothing short of a holy war.” She further stated, “No wonder then that House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is similarly steeped in these Christian nationalist beliefs, says he is ‘all in’ for Trump in 2024.”
