His show had initially come to a halt as a result of the writer’s strike, as it concluded Kimmel remarked how happy he was to be back and how many Trump-related jokes he had backed up.  Kimmel also told the audience that the crew knew they were back to work after their parents began sending text messages with notes for the show.

Reading a text a crew member had received, Kimmel read: “Please don’t make the whole monologue about Trump.” Kimmel responded: “That is a no-can-do. I am backed up like you cannot believe.  “He’s taunting us. He was here in California over the weekend for a fundraiser.  “While he was here, he stopped at a Carvel ice-cream store and he grabbed ’em by the Cookie Puss. He didn’t even ask permission. It’s rare you see Fudgie the Whale go into a Carvel, but that’s exactly what he did.”

Kimmel went on to ridicule Trump and his supporters for his takes on preventing forest fires in California.  Jokingly, the host remarked that he loved Trump, saying that now the state of California has had all the rain, they should use it to keep their forests damp so they don’t catch on fire.

“Supporters from all around the southland paid $600 a pop for bright new ideas like this,” Kimmel said. “He is so right. Why didn’t we think of dampening the forest? That should be his slogan for 2024. DTF, dampen the forests.”

Trump Legal Troubles

This year the former president has faced a whole host of legal difficulties.  Trump is facing four criminal indictments as well as a total of 91 felony charges. In April, he pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records.

These are in relation to the $130,000 he allegedly arranged for his former attorney Michael Cohen to pay adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep secret an alleged affair the two had before the 2016 election.

The former president has also pleaded not guilty to 40 federal charges. This is in connection to allegations he kept top-secret and sensitive materials when he left the White House in January 2021. In addition to this, he faces accusations he willfully obstructed the federal attempt to retrieve these documents.

Trump and several of his allies were charged in August with allegations including racketeering and forgery in their attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.  In August Trump was also charged with four counts as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s probe into the events that led up to the Capitol riots in January 2021.

Trump’s Response

Trump has denied any and all wrongdoing and has repeatedly insisted he is innocent of all crimes he is accused of. He has gone as far as to suggest his recent legal troubles are part of a political witch hunt.  Speaking on social media, he has also launched attacks on political figures, attorneys and judges.

“Trump is now facing 91 felony counts. 91 felony counts,” he said as the audience applauded “It’s like all of Melania’s birthday wishes came true at once. Every time something Trump happened in the news, I would get texts asking me if I was bummed we didn’t have a show that night, and mostly, I was fine.”

Trump’s Weight

“But the one that really got me was when they booked Trump in Georgia, and he self-reported his weight at 215 pounds. I almost crossed the picket line for that,” Kimmel joked.

“Hop On This Scale Big Fella,” Kimmel Joked

“If I were the judge in the case he has going in New York right now, I’d start the trial by saying ‘Look, we’re gonna get to the fraud thing, but first? Hop up on this scale, big fella,” the host continued. “If he’s 215 pounds, that means he is 30 pounds lighter than his last physical. When he was president, he was 245 pounds. which means he is either lying or the colonel is now frying his chicken in Ozempic.”

Social Media Response

Kimmel, who has been an ongoing critic of the former President, received both praise and condemnation from social media users on X, formally known as Twitter. However, many on X complained about restarting jokes mocking Trump.

“Stop Talking About Trump,” One X user wrote

Hey Jimmy Kimmel you suck! Seriously stop talking about Trump. That’s all you whine about and it’s so old it has grandchildren. Go back to being on strike or cancelled,” user EliasLaradi wrote on X.

“So Boring,” Another X user said of Kimmel

“So boring! It’s all about Trump! Do you really have nothing else to poke fun about? Let Guillermo do the show. Sorry Jimmy,” user Marlapg wrote on X.  “Jimmy Kimmel and Arnold Schwarzenegger are slamming Trump and pushing climate change,” conservative digital strategist Eric Spracklen wrote of the show. “The writers that just got back to work after striking should be embarrassed. How hard is it to come up with some new material?”
