The fierce attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris just keep on coming — including, now, a barb that she’s a “terrible person” and an “awful politician.”
‘Lowest’ Poll Ratings
It comes as Harris’ ratings in the polls have plunged to what NBC News said was “the lowest for any vice president in the poll’s history” after a new survey by the broadcaster found that 49 percent of voters had a negative view of the vice president.
An average of the latest polls by ABC News’ 538 polling site, however, puts Harris’ disapproval rating even higher, at 54.9 percent.
‘Race and Gender’
The latest debate on the vice president’s popularity followed comments by CNN analyst Ashley Allison, who worked on the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign. Gender and also race were to blame for that fact that most Americans don’t like her, Allison suggested.
‘Easiest Thing to Say’
Allison continued with her reasoning for Harris’ unpopularity: “I think this is happening for a couple of reasons. Most people don’t know what vice presidents do. And now she is a history maker. She is a woman. She is a black woman. And it’s the easy thing to do to say she’s the attack dog, go after her,” she said.
‘No Bipartisan Reform’
Allison said Harris had worked to uncover what was driving the mass, illegal migration of people across the US’ southern border with Mexico and that Democrats and Republicans had not adequately addressed the issue.
“[Harris] was not put in charge of the border. She was put in charge of the root causes and going down to Central and South America to discuss what is happening,” she said. “And everyone admits our immigration policies are in crisis. It’s not because of Kamala Harris. It’s because we have not been able to find bipartisan reform.”
Not Harris’ Fault
The political commentator said that blame should not be placed on the vice president.
“We all know the election systems are broke. We have a former president who won’t even acknowledge that he lost the election. That’s not because of Kamala Harris,” Allison added.
‘Not About Race and Gender’
Speaking on her podcast on Sirius XM, journalist Megyn Kelly hit back at Allison’s assertion that race and gender were behind Harris’ plunging poll ratings. “She’s not doing better because we’re racist and we’re sexist,” she said, noting that polls showed blacks and Latinos also had an unfavorable view of the vice president.
Harris a ‘Terrible Person’
Speaking on the Kelly podcast about Harris, conservative radio show host Charlie Kirk agreed that it wasn’t about race or gender — but because Harris wasn’t a nice person.
“No, people don’t like Kamala Harris because she’s a terrible person and she’s an awful politician. She’s not even good at it,” he said.
‘Ticking the Boxes’
Harris only got the job because she ticked the boxes on affirmative action, Kirk suggested.
“The cackling thing, she has not been able to get that out of her standard operating procedure. She says the goofiest, weirdest stuff. She just kind of just got appointed because of — she’s an affirmative action pick, let’s just call it exactly what it is,” he said.
A Second Biden-Harris Ticket
President Joe Biden has announced he is seeking a second term in office, along with Harris as his running mate. If selected as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential election, following primaries early next year, the pair may face off against former president Donald Trump, who is seeking the Republican Party nomination. Voters and some in the Democratic Party are concerned about Biden’s age, 80, however, amid a recent series of gaffes and stumbles while walking.
Biden and Trump
Both President Biden and Trump are polling nearly equal among voters of their respective parties, at just under 50 percent who say they would choose them in the presidential election next year.
Trump Obstacles
Trump has not seen his poll numbers drop despite a number of high-profile criminal and civil cases he is embroiled in, including four indictments carrying 91 federal charges. They relate to alleged election interference, over the 2020 vote, as well as alleged mishandling of sensitive government files. His property empire is also under threat, due to a civil case in New York alleging fraud was committed.
‘Great Approval Ratings’
Harris, 59, has claimed she has solid approval ratings. Asked in an interview with ABC News in early October if she was worried about polls showing most Americans don’t approve of her, Harris hit back by saying “Well, there are polls that also say I have great approval ratings.”
Working to Improve in Polls
The vice president also told ABC News that she was planning to boost her favorability ratings in the polls by campaigning around the country. She was, she said, “taking it outside of Washington DC.”
