“A Bloodthirsty Retribution Campaign”: Trump Ramps up War on Political Enemies and Vows to “Root Out Vermin”

Donald Trump’s Number 1 priority if he gets back to the White House? Launching a full-scale, blistering war on those who tried to persecute him, political analysts say.

That would chiefly be Democratic Party operatives who, Trump believes, have attacked him with indictments that threaten to send him to prison on an array of charges that total 91.

Launching His War

The outspoken former president, 77, is not shy about making his views known, or to lob barbs at just about anyone that crosses his path. Now, in a major television interview, Trump has effectively declared war on those who are aiming to put him behind bars.

‘Weaponized the Legal System’

In an interview with Spanish-language network Univision, Trump accused the Democratic Party of having “weaponized” the legal system by bringing the mountain of charges against him. And he said the alleged attacks on him “could certainly happen in reverse” — strongly suggesting he would go after his political foes if back in power.

A Trump ‘Revenge Term’

A second Trump presidency would, in effect, be four years of revenge against people he sees as arch enemies, The Washington Post reported. Trump and his team are already drawing up  “specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents should he win a second term,” it says.

Trump’s team is also plotting to “potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations,” says the Post article, adding that Trump would also “go after” President Biden and members of his family by appointing a special prosecutor.

USA as a ‘Banana Republic’

University of Virginia constitutional law professor Saikrishna Prakash told the post: “It would resemble a banana republic if people came into office and started going after their opponents willy-nilly. It’s hardly something we should aspire to.”

Laying the Blame

Trump blames Democrats for the four indictments he has been hit with, arguing that the legal moves are “witch hunts” to prevent him from running in the 2024 race and potentially become the next president.

The Indictments

The former president is charged with trying to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election that he lost to Biden — at federal and also state level, in Georgia — for withholding sensitive government files and allegedly paying hush money so an affair wouldn’t be disclosed. In all the cases he has denied guilt. New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, has brought fraud charges against Trump and his adult sons, and the judge in the case has ruled that fraud was committed.

Trump Opponents Are ‘Vermin’

Following his controversial Univision comments suggesting he would prosecute political foes if back in the Oval Office, Trump again hit out at his perceived enemies. At a rally in New Hampshire, he said he would “root out” those who attacked him, adding that they “live like vermin.”

‘Just Ridiculous’

Commenting on the ongoing controversies swirling around Trump, a person wrote online: “We should certainly keep enabling someone who clearly views the presidency as a personal toy to be used for their benefit. I mean, I can understand someone having different political views than me, but this is just ridiculous.”

‘Bad Strategy’

Another commented, “That’s fine and dandy to make you feel good, but putting your plans and intentions out in the open before you’ve even won… sounds like a bad strategy to begin with.”

‘Bloodthirsty Campaign’

On X, formerly Twitter, political strategist Lindy Li suggested that Trump was only interested in revenge.

“Another Trump term would be a bloodthirsty retribution campaign,” she wrote. “He doesn’t give a damn about governing our country.” She added: “His sole aim is to unleash his most egregious revenge fantasies upon his critics and the American people, whom he considers ‘vermin.’”

Trump a ‘Dictator’

Another X user, Diana Manister, who describes herself as an “anti-faschist,” said: “Trump is ready to use the Justice Department as a weapon against former allies. Like every dictator. His supporters are uncomfortably okay with the idea.”

Trump the Likely GOP Nominee

Averages of national polling suggest Trump will be selected as the Republican Party nominee for the 2024 presidential election. He is currently polling at nearly 60 percent while his nearest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is at around 13 percent.

Trump v Biden?

Biden is also the frontrunner on the Democratic side, polling at around 70 percent and with almost no competition. If Biden and Trump are selected by their respective parties, it would mean a rerun of the contested 2020 vote that Trump refused to accept he lost and that ultimately led to deadly rioting at the US Capitol.
