Cohen called out Trump, saying he was “truly an idiot” for not paying legal expenses for the former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the Georgia election subversion and racketeering trial. “[He’s] gonna go down the hill and there’ll be no brakes,” warned Trump’s former attorney, Cohen, in a CNN interview. But why was Giuliani’s potential testimony more dangerous?
Cohen a Key Witness in NY Civil Trial
Cohen has been a prominent witness in the New York civil trial. Attorney General James alleges that Trump, along with his two adult sons and the Trump Organization, artificially inflated the value of his assets to strike more favorable loans and business deals.
Trump Is Truly an Idiot
In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Cohen called Trump “an idiot” for not paying his former lawyers’ legal fees in relation to the Georgia racketeering trial. In particular, Cohen struck out firmly at Trump’s refusal to cover Giuliani’s expenses: “Donald’s an idiot. Let me just be very clear – when it comes to paying money, he is truly an idiot.”
Former Lawyer Jenna Ellis Charged
Trump’s former attorney, Jenna Ellis, who assisted in Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election has been charged in the case. She cried while delivering a statement to the defense as she pleaded guilty.
Trump Is Not Picking Up the Tab
Ellis had formerly struck out at the former president for not picking up the tab for her defense. She recently took to X (Twitter) to ask why Trump and MAGA supporters were not covering the fees. “I was reliably informed Trump isn’t funding any of us who are indicted. Would this change if he becomes the nominee? Why then, not now?” Ellis posted.
MAGA Inc. Not Funding the Defense
She concluded her post, “I totally agree this has become a bigger principle than just one man. So, why isn’t MAGA Inc. funding everyone’s defense?”
Former Lawyer Chesebro Also Made a Deal
Former Lawyer Kenneth Chesebro also pleaded guilty to a felony charge accusing him of participating in efforts to overturn the 2020 election in the state of Georgia.
Chesebro Pleaded Guilty to One Felony Charge
Chesebro entered a guilty plea for a single felony charge of conspiring to file false documents as part of an agreement with prosecutors who, in turn, agreed to drop the remaining charges. His fellow attorney, Sidney Powell, who had initially been set to stand trial with him, has also entered a guilty plea.
Giuliani Faces Racketeering Charges
Rudy Giuliani, another of Trump’s former lawyers, faces 13 counts in the Georgia trial and has reportedly not been offered a plea deal. The former NYC mayor, who initially gained prominence as a federal prosecutor for his use of racketeering charges against organized crime, is now confronted with the same charge.
“You’re Gonna Go Down”
“He has not learned yet. Three people you don’t want to throw under the bus like that: your lawyer, your doctor, and your mechanic,” Cohen told Collins during the CNN interview. “Because, one way or the other, you’re gonna go down the hill and there’ll be no brakes.”
Giuliani Has “Smoking Gun” Information
Cohen also claimed in the interview that Rudy Giuliani “from his own mouth” had stated he had “smoking gun information” about Donald Trump. “Do you think Trump’s making a big mistake for refusing to pay for Rudy Giuliani’s legal fees?” asked Collins. “Absolutely,” stated Cohen.
Rudy Needs to Speak
Cohen continued to refer to Rudy’s “smoking gun information” and added, “Well, if that’s true, I strongly suggest Rudy… he’s gonna need to speak and he’s gonna need to speak before everybody else does.”
It Was in Trump’s “Best Interests” To Pay Legal Fees
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins confirmed that sources told her that it was in Trump’s “best interests” to pay for Giuliani’s legal fees. She stated that Trump made a small contribution but nothing near the seven figures the former NY mayor was “dealing with.”
Rudy Owed From “Past Performance”
“Donald supposedly owed Rudy Giuliani for past performance,” said Cohen. “Again, the job that Rudy did for Donald, I don’t know if I would pay either,” Cohen laughed.
Trumps Life “Hanging on the Line”
“At the end of the day, when your life is basically hanging on the line, once again, you just really don’t want to throw another lawyer under the bus,” Cohen reiterated during his interview.
CNN Identifies Rudy as Co-Conspirator One
CNN recently reported that they had identified Co-Conspirator One from the indictment. “However, based on quotes in the indictment and other context, CNN can identify five of the six co-conspirators. Co-Conspirator One is former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. Among other things, the indictment quotes from a voicemail that Co-Conspirator One left “for a United States senator” on January 6, 2021.”
Quotes in Indictment Matched Call
“The quotes in the indictment match quotes from Giuliani’s call intended for GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville, as reported by CNN and other outlets,” the CNN article stated.
“They’re Not Saying Anything Bad About Me”
When asked about his former lawyers’ deals with prosecutors, Trump reportedly responded, “Well, they’re offering a deal and they’re taking deals. But from what I understand, they’re saying nothing bad about me at all but they’re taking deals.”
Former President in the Most Peril
Norman Eisen, a former trial lawyer, said, “After the former president, it is Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman who are in the most peril here.”
