Donald Trump has raged against not only his two impeachments but also the four indictments against him that could hand him in jail — and has urged fellow Republicans to boot President Joe Biden out of office now, calling him a “bum.”
‘All Talk, No Impeachment’
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Republicans were all talk and no action regarding a possible impeachment vote against the president. “The Republicans in Congress, though well meaning, keep talking about an Impeachment ‘Inquiry’ on Crooked Joe Biden,” he said.
Criminal Charge
Trump said, without any evidence to back up his claim, that President Biden was paid off and was therefore a criminal who should lose his job.
“Look, the guy got bribed, he paid people off, and he wouldn’t give One Billion Dollars to Ukraine unless they ‘got rid of the Prosecutor.’ Biden is a Stone Cold Crook. You don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven,” he raged.
Democratic ‘Lowlifes’
Trump made history during his term in office by becoming the first president to be impeached twice. But the votes were later overturned in the Republican-controlled Senate. In his Truth Social post, Trump called for retaliation for his impeachment and also for criminal indictments he’s battling.
“These lowlifes Impeached me TWICE (I WON!), and Indicted me FOUR TIMES – For NOTHING!. Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US!”
‘No Trump Impeachment Delays’
In a subsequent, all-caps post on Truth Social, Trump said there were no delays or deliberations when he was impeached, suggesting the same should happen with Biden.
“NEVER HAD AN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY, I HAD AN IMPEACHMENT, WHICH I WON! IT WAS STARTED IMMEDIATELY, NO MEETINGS, NO STUDY, NO DELAYS.”
‘Lunatic Fascists and Marxists’
The ex-president continued his Truth Social post, referring to his campaign slogan Make America Great Again: “THE LUNATIC FASCISTS & MARXISTS PLAY THE GAME DIFFERENTLY,” he added. “THEY ARE OUT TO DESTROY AMERICA. MAGA!”
Republican Impeachment Moves
House Republicans opened an inquiry into a possible impeachment of President Biden in September, showing payments from foreign entities to members of Biden’s family but not himself. Democrats said there was no proof that the president personally benefited from the payments and therefore no reason why he should be impeached.
‘Insufficient Evidence to Impeach’
Legal analysts, including George Washington University professor Jonathan Turley and Michael Gerhardt, a law professor at the University of North Carolina, say there is insufficient evidence pointing to wrongdoing by President Biden to impeach him.
Troubled Trump Run
Trump, 77, is campaigning for the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election; primaries in which Republicans will vote for their candidate take place in January. So far Trump has been leading the Republican field in polls, by a margin of about 50 points, making him the clear choice among voters. But his path to the nomination and potential presidential run is littered with major criminal cases he’s fighting.
The Indictments
Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Biden but refused to concede. He has been indicted with attempting to overturn the results and block the transfer of power to Biden — charges he denies, saying the amount to little more than a “witch hunt” by Democrats. Another indictment alleges Trump held on to secret government papers, including about the US’ nuclear program, when he left office and discussed them with other people, potentially jeopardizing national security.
Civil Cases
Along with Trump’s indictments, which carry a total of 91 criminal charges, Trump is fighting civil cases too. One is being heard in New York and accuses him, executives at the Trump Organization and his adult sons of fraud by inflating property values to get cheap bank loans. They face a fine of at least $250 million and possibly losing control of their property empire.
A Biden and Trump Contest?
If Trump becomes the GOP nominee, he may contest the 2024 presidential election against President Biden, 80, who is seeking a second term with Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate. Biden is also the leading Democratic nominee candidate, and is polling at about 70 percent. But there are growing concerns about his advanced age and recent public episodes where he was incoherent in his speech and also tripped and stumbled while walking.
Potential Tight Race
Both Biden and Trump are about equal in presidential polling, with just under 50 percent of voter preferences each, suggesting a potentially closely fought election — and a rematch of the controversial 2020 vote.
