Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has taken a swing at her colleague and former friend, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado). Both representatives heckled President Joe Biden together during his 2022 State of the Union Address, but things have turned sour between the pair.
Greene Has Slammed Boebert Before
Back in June, Greene called Boebert a “little b—–” on the House floor, accusing her of copying her articles of impeachment against Biden which she had previously asked her to sponsor. “I have defended her when she’s been attacked,” Greene told reporters at the time.
“We Should Be Natural Allies”
“She and I have virtually the same voting record. We’re both members of the House Freedom Caucus. We should be natural allies… But for some reason, she has a great skill and talent for making most people here not like her. And so, it’s her issue.”
Attacking Rep. Tlaib
Greene’s newest outburst at Boebert came as she took to social media to attack Palestinian-American Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan). She directed a post on X to Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), writing “You voted to kick me out of the freedom caucus, but keep CNN wannabe Ken Buck and vaping g—ing Lauren Boebert and you voted with the Democrats to protect Terrorist Tlaib.” This references a House vote by Greene to have Tlaib removed from Congress for her criticisms of Israel.
Citing January 6
Greene’s post continued, “You hate Trump, certified Biden’s election, and could care less about J6 [January 6] defendants being persecuted.” Roy voted against Greene’s motion, calling it a “feckless resolution to censure Tlaib” despite disagreeing with her comments about Israel’s war.
Far-Right Rivals
Greene and Boebert both fall on the far-right but have clashed over numerous issues, such as the appointment of Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker. McCarthy was ultimately removed last month and replaced by Mike Johnson.
Boebert’s Behavior
Greene’s “vaping g—ing” comment concerns an incident from September when Boebert attended a live performance of Beetlejuice in Denver and was caught on theater surveillance footage smoking from a vape pen and inappropriately touching a male acquaintance.
“Desperate Housewives of Washington DC”
Many people online condemned both Greene and Boebert and struggled to take them seriously as members of Congress. One commenter dubbed them the “desperate housewives of Washington DC,” whereas another said, “two of the trashiest people in Congress are trashing each other. This is extraordinary.”
A Match Made In Heaven
“They don’t even realize they’re perfect for each other,” one person stated. Another wrote, “They’re both terribly unwell people. It’s a shame no one loves either of them enough to encourage them to seek help.” Others asked them to “get a room.”
Enjoying the Spectacle
Commenters enjoyed seeing two politicians they dislike at odds. “Yes, more infighting amongst Republicans, please!” one person exclaimed. “They need to just have it out once and for all, in a Florida Walmart parking lot where they belong,” another shared. “Fight fight fight fight fight fight fight,” came the rallying cry of one poster.
“The Same Kind of Disgusting, Hateful Idiots”
Several people expressed the sentiment that both Greene and Boebert are as bad as each other. “I love it when they eat their own,” one person wrote. “It’s a good sign for the rest of us. These two are exactly the same kind of disgusting, hateful idiots.”
Undeserved Attention
Some users questioned forum members for celebrating the squabbling. “Who cares? Both of them don’t deserve any of our attention,” someone chastised.
Embarrassing Themselves
“They don’t even have the common sense to understand they are embarrassing themselves,” one person declared, pertaining to Greene and Boebert’s general behavior over the previous months. “You have to have shame to feel embarrassment,” another replied.
Lack of Self-Awareness
“Part of me is jealous of them,” one poster revealed. “It would feel so liberating to lack even the capacity for introspection. No self-doubt or self-criticism, never having to lay awake at night thinking of something you said, or wondering if you could have done something better. It’s like a superpower in a way, except it makes you a f——– horrible human.”
Republican Hypocrisy
People pointed out the GOP’s hypocritical attitude towards Democrats. “Weren’t they complaining about the Democrat’s lack of decorum the other week?” one commenter asked. “This is why the room laughed at her when she asked for decorum,” another replied.
A Petty Cause
One forum user highlighted the underlying reason behind Greene calling Boebert a “little b—-” in June. “To be absolutely clear, this particular spat is about who gets to bring articles of impeachment against Biden. Not about the content or viability of the filing. Literally just whose name is at the top of the page,” someone explained. “I used to get mad about this kind of stuff… when I was 8,” another said.
The Root of the Feud
Commenters speculated what the root cause of Greene and Boebert’s feud could be considering their obvious similarities. One user suggested that “they’re fighting over the same pool of donors.”
“We Need Adults Running Our Government”
The consensus was that both Greene and Boebert have no place in politics. “This kind of behavior should be grounds for expulsion. We need adults running our government,” one person observed.
