“The Children Would Be Deported Along With Their Families,” States Ramaswamy, Even Though There Are “Legally Contested Questions” About Children With Birthright Citizenship

In an interview with NBC News, Republican and Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy told reporters that if he claimed the Presidential role, he would deport American-born children of undocumented migrants. “The family unit will be deported,” confirmed Ramaswamy.

We Will Follow the Constitution

Ramaswamy went on to state, “We will follow the Constitution and the letter of the law to a T.” The Republican candidate may find deporting children born in the US a bigger challenge than he thinks, as the 14th Amendment clearly protects these children.  

What Does the 14th Amendment Say?

The 14th Amendment states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” This means children who are born in the US are US citizens, even in the case that their parents may not be. Reporters pressed Ramaswamy about children with Birthright Citizenship and if he planned to deport them. “That is correct,” he said. “And I think there are legally contested questions…”  

Children Shouldn’t Be Granted Citizenship as Their Parents “Broke the Law.”

In a separate interview, Ramaswamy argued that in accordance with the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, which grants birthright citizenship to most individuals born in the US, children of undocumented migrants born in the country should not be given citizenship due to their parents’ having “broke the law. “  

It Would Be Perfectly Legally Permissible to Remove the Entire Family Unit

“Under the legal theory that the child of an illegal immigrant is not someone who enjoys birthright citizenship, then it would be perfectly legally permissible to remove the entire family unit,” Ramaswamy attempts to argue.

Ramaswamy was himself the child of a migrant family to the US. He made millions in pharmaceuticals and biotech. He launched his career as a politician after authoring a book titled Woke, Inc., in 2021, providing him recognition in the realm of right-wing politics. According to federal election records, Ramaswamy has already spent $15m of his own money on his campaign.

So, who is Ramaswamy? When speaking in the UK to podcast host Russell Brand, he declared, “I’m more similar to Trump in 2015 than Trump today is to Trump in 2015,”.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Ramaswamy called the LGBTQ community “cult-like.” Ramaswamy said the LGBTQ rights movement is “perpetuated by ideas that are based in faith rather than facts.”  

“Drill, Frack & Burn Coal: Abandon the Climate Cult”

Amidst a backdrop of escalating climate crises characterized by rampant wildfires and extreme weather events worldwide, he is campaigning with a pro-fossil fuel agenda. He has also been known to talk about the climate change agenda being a hoax. “Drill, frack & burn coal: abandon the climate cult & unshackle nuclear energy,” is a statement from his campaign website.  

Ramaswamy Exhibits a Lack of Understanding of How the Government Works

Todd Belt, professor and political management program director at George Washington University, recently commented on one of Ramaswamy’s recent interviews: “He was saying things that frankly exhibited a lack of understanding of how the government works and the Powers of the Presidency.”

Trump has also pledged to issue an executive order on his first day of a new term with the aim of ending birthright citizenship for “illegal aliens.” As with most of Trump’s proposals, this would almost certainly encounter substantial legal challenges.
