“This is disgraceful. Our country is over 200 years old. We have never once indicted a former President or a candidate and a leading candidate for president. And this is Joe Biden, and this is the Democrats weaponizing the justice system because they’re afraid of the voters,” he continued in his outburst.

Donald Trump and 18 associates faced indictments in Georgia regarding their attempts to reverse his 2020 election defeat in the state. Prosecutors employed a statute typically associated with organized crime to charge the former president, lawyers, and other aides involved in a “criminal enterprise” to keep him in power.

The nearly 100-page indictment outlines numerous actions by Trump and his allies to challenge his electoral loss, including pressuring Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State to find additional votes for him in the battleground state, intimidating an election worker facing false fraud allegations, and attempting to persuade Georgia lawmakers to disregard the voters’ will and appoint a new slate of electoral college electors favorable to Trump.

“The indictment alleges that rather than abide by Georgia’s legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia’s presidential election result,” stated Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, whose office brought the case.

Attorney Sidney Powell reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on reduced charges related to her efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss in Georgia.

She was one of the defendants, alongside Trump and 17 others, charged with violating the state’s anti-racketeering law. This plea came just a day before jury selection was scheduled to commence in her trial. Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanors related to conspiring to intentionally disrupt the execution of election duties.

As part of the deal made with prosecutors, she will undergo six years probation, pay a $6,000 fine, and compose an apology letter to Georgia and its residents. Furthermore, she has committed to providing truthful testimony against her co-defendants in forthcoming trials.

Initially facing charges of racketeering and six other counts, Powell was accused of participating in a far-reaching scheme to keep Trump in office after losing the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden. Prosecutors also asserted her involvement in an unauthorized breach of election equipment at a rural county elections office in Georgia.
Pushed Baseless Conspiracy Theories About a Stolen Election

Accepting this plea deal represents a significant shift for Powell, a lawyer who vigorously propagated unfounded conspiracy theories about election fraud despite substantial contrary evidence.
Powell Could Provide Valuable Insight in the Trial

If compelled to testify, she could shed light on her involvement in a news conference held on behalf of Trump and his campaign shortly after the election and a White House meeting she attended in mid-December of the same year. Allegedly, during the meeting, strategies and theories related to influencing the election’s outcome were discussed.
Powell Becomes Second Defendant to Strike a Deal With Prosecutors

Powell becomes the second defendant to strike a deal with prosecutors, following the precedent set by Scott Hall, who changed his plea from not guilty to guilty in Fulton County court.
Will the Defendants Fall Like Dominos?

Hall pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to intentionally disrupt the performance of election duties, resulting in a sentence of five years’ probation, a $5,000 fine, and 200 hours of community service. This may set a precedent for further plea agreements.
There are 17 defendants left. Will the previous plea deals create a domino effect?
