Debate Set to Happen

Rather than continue squabbling over the internet and in interviews, the pair have now decided to settle their differences in a debate.  The debate is set to happen on November 30th on Fox News with Sean Hannity acting as a host.

While speaking to Fox News’ Elex Michaelson this week, Newsom questioned why DeSantis has agreed to a debate with him while he is running for President.  In a clip that has now gone viral with over 4 million views since being shared on X, formally known as Twitter, on September 28, Newsom said DeSantis has been baited into the debate.

Newsom has repeatedly dismissed suggestions he is running in the 2024 election and put his full support behind President Joe Biden who confirmed he was running earlier this year.

Newsom questioned DeSantis’ motives and suggested that at this point he now regrets running and may internally believe he has made a mistake.

“Why is he doing it?” Newsom Says When Asked About The Debate

“Why is he doing it is the right question. He is running, I think, I am not sure after tonight,” Newsom told Michaelson. “But currently he is running for President of the United States.”

“The fact that he took this debate, the fact that he took the bait in relation to this debate shows that he is completely unqualified to be President of the United States,” Newsom continued. “Why is he debating a guy who is not even running for president when he is running for president.”

Ron DeSantis is “Distracted” According to Newsom

“He is showing up at the Reagan Library, hallowed ground, and he puts out an ad today not for his presidential campaign?” Newsom said. “To promote a debate against the Governor of California? I mean this guy is distracted.”

“Don’t Know If He Has It” Newsom says of DeSantis’ Presidential Future

“So I don’t know he has it in his heart. Here is my personal opinion on Ron DeSantis,” Newsom continued. “He regrets running for President. He made a huge mistake. He listened to his consultants, he bought his own hype, he had this little God complex.”

“He bought into all this stuff and he quickly regretted it but he is stuck. “Here is the problem, you get one chance of a first impression, he has belly flopped. He is down thirty plus points since when he started. It is a terrible situation for him.”

DeSantis Takes Shot at Newsom

During the Republican nomination debate on Wednesday, Ron DeSantis took aim at Newsom by criticising the level of crime in cities within California.  The debate was held in southern California and DeSantis claimed during his brief time in the area three people told him they had been mugged. He went on to question the safety of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“Decaying America” Says DeSantis As He Reflects on California Crime

“The crime in these cities is one of the strongest signs of the decaying of America,” DeSantis said.  “We can’t be successful as a country if people aren’t even safe to live in places like Los Angeles and San Francisco. “Just being in Southern California over the last couple of days, my wife and I have met three people who have been mugged on the street.” He added: “That would have never happened ten or 20 years ago. In Florida, we back the blue [and] we support the men and women of law enforcement.”

Newsom Retaliated With Advice for DeSantis

Speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash, Newsom argued DeSantis should be more focused on the crime levels of his own state. “This may be an opportunity for him to look up Jacksonville, Florida, and he may want to familiarize himself with Miami, Florida, and his homicide rates,” Newsom said.

“Hypocrisy” Newsom says of DeSantis Criticism

Newsom also argued that while the crime in these cities is a concerning issue, he feels it is hypocritical to turn the spotlight on his state when many Republican held ones have worse rates.

DeSantis Must Take Responsibility Says Newsom

He replied: “I am saying crime is a real issue but I find the hypocrisy and the unwillingness to be honest with the Ameican people, the unwillingness to take responsibility, Ron DeSantis take responsibility for his own crime rates in his own major cities, I find that curious.”
