According to the most recent survey conducted by The Economist and YouGov, nearly 60% of Republican voters refuse to accept that Trump played a role in overturning the 2020 Election results in Georgia. Additionally, almost half of the Republican voters hold the view that the election was conducted unfairly.
Georgia’s Election Was Held Unfairly
When asked, “How much confidence do you have that the 2020 presidential election was held fairly in Georgia?” 41% of Republican voters said they had no confidence that the election was fair.
GOP Voters Strongly Disapprove of Trump’s Charges
Republicans were also asked what their views were on Trump’s charges in the Georgia lawsuit, including charges of election fraud and racketeering. The survey asked if Republican voters approved or disapproved of the decision to charge Donald Trump. 75% said they somewhat or strongly disapproved of Trump’s charges.
Trump Was Not Involved in Overturning 2020 Election
When asked if they believed that Donald Trump was involved in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia, 59% of Republican voters said that Trump was not involved.
Democratic Voters Believe Trump Was Involved
In stark contrast, 75% of Democrat voters said he was involved in overturning the 2020 Election results.
GOP Party Is Not United
The poll also asked Republican voters, “Which party do you think is currently more united?” Only 32% of Republicans thought their Party was more United than other parties.
Investigation After Infamous Phone Call
In February 2021, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis initiated an investigation into allegations of Election Fraud. This inquiry followed closely on the heels of the revelation that Trump had urged Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” sufficient votes to overturn his Georgia defeat.
Find the Votes
During a phone conversation lasting one hour with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Trump infamously said on the call, “All I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have… Fellas, I need 11,000 votes, give me a break.”
The Big Lie
Trump wrote in a statement published by his Save America PAC in May 2021. “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!” Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming responded to Trump’s statement on X (Twitter), “The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”
Four Defendants Have Made a Deal
Among the 19 individuals, including Trump, accused of involvement in an illicit plot to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, four have currently pleaded guilty to lesser charges and agreed to provide honest testimony in upcoming trials in deals made with prosecutors.
Jenna Ellis Latest to Plead Guilty
Attorney Jenna Ellis became the most recent to strike a deal, entering a guilty plea for a felony charge in exchange for a probationary sentence instead of imprisonment.
Two Other Lawyers Also Made a “Deal.”
In recent developments, lawyers Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro also struck comparable deals, coinciding with the scheduled commencement of their trial. The initial guilty plea in the lawsuit came from bail bondsman Scott Graham Hall.
Trump Pleads Not Guilty
Trump and the 15 others charged in the Georgia racketeering and election fraud case have pleaded not guilty.
Big Lie Supporters Are Being Held Accountable
It appears that the judicial system is gradually beginning to impose accountability on those responsible for promoting the Republican “Big Lie,” calling it a dangerous effort to undermine democracy.
True the Vote Accused of Intimidating Voters
A case set to proceed to trial, initiated by Fair Fight and voters, claims that True the Vote and its affiliates violated the Voting Rights Act and engaged in voter intimidation.
True the Vote: The Largest Mass Voter Challenge
True The Vote, a right-wing organization, initiated the most extensive voter challenge campaign in Georgia’s history, explicitly scrutinizing the eligibility of over 364,000 voters in Georgia.
What You See and Read “Is Not Happening.”
Trump said, as noted in a White House release of Presidential remarks back in July 2018, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States National Convention, “What you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening. And I’ll tell you, I have so many people that are so in favor, because we have to make our country truly great again.”
Reject the Evidence of Your Eyes and Ears
In response to the Economist/YouGov Survey, users took to social media to voice their opinions and to raise past quotes from Trump and George Orwell. One user posted, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” ― George Orwell, 1984
Trump’s “Most Essential Command.”
Another wrote, “Just so it doesn’t feel like this is everyone: I’m a lifelong conservative who has voted red in every election since turning 18. Beginning in 2022 and moving forward my commitment is that I will never vote for another election denying Republican. I’m pro-democracy before I’m pro-party. ‘And just remember what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not what’s happening.’ -Trump, July 2018. George Orwell wrote “the party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears … it was their final, most essential command.”
