A woman shared how two of her roommates made life difficult, and stopped contributing, so she and the others left them with nothing in an act of petty revenge.
Five Other Roommates
She explained, “This happened during my junior year of college. I lived with five other women. When we signed the lease on the house, we agreed to a one-year deal (June 1-May 31).
Off-Campus
The house was off-campus and unfurnished, so they needed things to make it feel like home. Before moving in, they all sat down together and decided what they needed for the house and who was going to bring what, then also settled on a chore schedule.
Household Supply Fund
The women decided that they would set up a household supply fund. This would ensure they could buy things they would all use like toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, and laundry detergent.
Unfair
The woman and 3 of her roommates ended up buying most of the stuff they needed. This included a couch, a small dining table, dishes, silverware, drinking glasses, cookware, food storage containers, etc.
Fall Semester
She said, “Things went pretty well during the fall semester. Shortly after that, things started to decline.”
Boyfriends Moved In
One of the other women unofficially moved her boyfriend into the house. The two of them started acting like they owned the place.
Passive Aggressive Notes
If anyone left a dirty dish in the sink, they would leave a passive-aggressive note about how rude it was to do that. If someone arrived home after the library closed at midnight, the couple who went to bed at 10 would get angry about being woken up.
Second Couple
Pretty soon, another woman moved her boyfriend in and they began acting in much the same way. By early February, the woman and her roommates who didn’t have live-in boyfriends agreed they didn’t want to continue sharing with the two women and their boyfriends.
Signed Another Lease
She said, “The four of us found a different off-campus place and signed a lease. We let the other two roommates know. From then on, the two of them, plus their boyfriends, went from partial jerks to complete jerks.
Caused Havoc
They would do things like stop the clothes washer mid-wash, take their clothes out, dump them on the floor, and start their own laundry. They’d use up all the hot water by taking super long showers.
Return to Sender
The remaining roommates wrote “return to sender” on their mail. They destroyed flowers that had been sent by the four women’s boyfriends. They also refused delivery of any packages they ordered, stopped contributing to the shared supply fund, and gave up doing chores.
Moved a Week Early
About a week before Memorial Day, she got a call from the landlord of their new place saying the previous tenants had moved out and they could move in early at no charge. The four of them discussed it and decided to get out of their current house ASAP, but didn’t tell the others of their plans.
Memorial Day
The woman recalled, “Memorial Day weekend rolled around and our two roommates and their live-in boyfriends headed out of town to go camping while the rest of us put our plan into action. With the help of friends, we got all of our stuff moved out.”
Moved Everything
She went on to say, “When I say all, I mean all, living room furniture, dining room furniture, dishes, silverware, cookware, food storage containers, baking supplies, shower curtain, rugs, lamps, vacuum, broom, dustpan, etc. We also decided that since neither of them had contributed to the shared household supply fund since March, the toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, laundry detergent, and so on, were ours, so we took all of that too.”
Shocked
She said, “Our Roommates and their boyfriends were shocked to return from their camping trip to an empty house. The thing that made our revenge even sweeter was that on their way home from the camping trip, all four of them got food poisoning and were really, really sick.”
Scathing Texts
The women, who were happily settling into their new home, received scathing texts about moving out unannounced and taking all shared household goods, especially the toilet paper. She said it was priceless.
Still Great Friends
She finished by saying that the four of them are great friends, 12 years later. They still get a good laugh about the situation. None of them have heard from the other two since graduation.
No Toilet Paper
People agreed with their course of action, with one saying, “Diarrhea and vomiting with no toilet paper or paper towels? That’s awesome.”
Or Soap
Another agreed, adding, “And no soap for the much-needed shower afterwards. I wouldn’t want to be them.”
