California Congressman Tom McClintock has slammed Joe Biden, calling him “one of the worst presidents in American history” in a new interview with GB News.
The Looming 2024 Election
Biden is increasingly coming under fire from critics and opponents as the 2024 US presidential election draws nearer. Many on the right are citing Biden’s record on the economy and migration as faults of his presidency, whereas his response to Israel’s war in Gaza is earning him disapproval from the left.
A Skeptic from the Start
McClintock admitted he has never been a Biden fan, sharing at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) Conference that “I don’t think he should have been elected” when asked if Biden should step down.
Questioning Biden’s Achievements
McClintock challenged Biden’s work in office: “You just see the damage he’s done to the economy, the border, the inflation rate. The fact that people, after inflation, are making less today than they were when he took office.”
Better or Worse Off?
“There’s going to be a very powerful question asked in 2024 and it’s the same question Ronald Reagan asked: ‘Are you better off today than you were four years ago?’” McClintock suggested. “People know the answer to that in their own lives. And I think that’s going to mean that Joe Biden will not be the president after 2024.”
Biden’s Migration Policy
McClintock named Biden the “cause of the problem” regarding migration, arguing that “Donald Trump had brought illegal immigration to a virtual standstill His Mexico policy had stopped the phony asylum cases.”
The Border Wall
The congressman was full of praise for Trump’s immigration measures, stating, “We were nearing completion of the border wall while we were enforcing court-ordered deportations for the first time in years. And it was working. Biden reversed all of those policies in his very first day in office.”
McClintock’s Anti-Immigrant Rant
“We had 2.9 million illegal immigrants released into our country: dependent, impoverished, and along with the criminal element that has accompanied it,” McClintock declared.
Conservative Commentator Weighs In
These new criticisms come after scathing reviews by Washington-based foreign policy expert Nile Gardiner, who called Biden “deeply out of touch with the American people.” Gardiner, a British conservative commentator, has long been critical of Biden.
Mounting Backlash Against Biden
Gardiner also panned Biden as a “monumental disaster for the US” who is “sinking faster than the Titanic.” As he gears up for his reelection campaign, Biden has been subject to criticism from those on the left as well as the right.
Petty Complaints
The latest criticism from the GOP stems from Biden simply celebrating Halloween. RNC Research scrutinized Biden’s behavior in footage of him on the holiday, posting their findings to X, formerly known as Twitter. One post read “Biden is visibly confused after Jill, Ed.D., instructs him to stand for a photo.”
Losing Touch With Their Own Base
One forum commenter reacted to the news, writing: “I have MAGA neighbors and they’re out there greeting kids and handing out candy just like I am. GOP has officially lost touch with their own base.” Another shared: “Let them be enraged. It’s a waste of their energy and makes them look dumber.”
Controversial Foreign Policy
Others have criticized Biden for supporting Israel in its war on Gaza and failing to do enough to protect Palestinian civilians. “Biden math is if you donate bandaids to people injured by the missiles you supply to the people dropping them, then it cancels out,” one person posted. “Saying “Biden is supporting a genocide” and “you should still vote for him” back to back is crazy work,” another wrote.
Some Stepped In to Defend Biden
Though Biden is polarising among liberals and those on the left, some have leaped to his defense. “He’s done way more for progressive politics than people realize,” one exclaimed. “Need to stop buying into the narrative the media is creating that he’s not a good president,” another argued.
Lesser of Two Evils
Some felt that no matter how bad Biden might be, a Republican president would be worse. “If Republicans were in charge, they would outright be cheering for genocide in Gaza,” one poster wrote. “No doubt they’d be dropping the bombs themselves,” another agreed.
Democrats v Republicans
“The difference always is Democrats are NOT doing ENOUGH (sometimes because they can’t sometimes because they don’t want to do more) but if Republicans could they would do worse,” one user argued.
Biden’s Unpopularity
Others have questioned whether condemnations of Biden on both sides will affect his success in the 2024 election. “Just remember, the only reason he is president at all is because “he’s not Trump,”” one person said.
Sharing McClintock’s Condemnations
Many agreed with McClintock’s assessment of Biden, even if for very different reasons. “Can we finally get another candidate a legitimate chance of being president?” one user asked after denouncing both Trump and Biden.
