A young woman shared online how she grew to hate her mother, and how this led to her collecting dirt on her over several years.
Personal Hell
She began by saying, “My dear old mother is an jerk. She has been my personal hell for as long as I can remember.
Threats
This personal hell began with the mother threatening to hit her with a bottle. It escalated to her trying to break down her daughter’s door while screaming obscenities at her.
Violence
There was physical violence too. She said, “She hit me over the head with an umbrella and yelled at me when I cried. I was eleven at the time.
Blamed and Abandoned
When she was six, her mother blamed her for her sister’s divorce. She said, “My mom left for three months without a warning then acted entitled to my forgiveness when she came back.”
More Violence
She recalled, her mom throwing things at her. This resulted in three broken televisions. “She also called me a myriad of names ranging from mild things like a useless waste of space, to more physical punishments.”
Best Mom in Public
The woman complained that her mom acts like she’s the best mom in existence around other people. She compliments her excessively. This means she can’t have a support system because no one would believe her when she tells them the truth about her mom.
Recordings
She said, “But I have an ace up my sleeve. For over two years, I secretly took videos and audio of many horrible moments, and kept them in a safe folder. These include moments like the ones mentioned above and lots more of her saying nasty things about neighbors, friends, and even her own eldest child behind their backs.
Packing for University
She told internet readers, that she was currently packing for university, saying, “By morning, the whole folder will reach multiple people, including my half-siblings, aunts, uncles, neighbors, her best friends, etc. Bad luck, and worse day mother, you always said justice is better served cold.”
Support
Readers were quick to comment with support and advice before she drastically cut all ties with her abusive mother. One suggested, “Make sure you have all your important documents before you leave, birth certificate, social, etc.”
Bank Account
Another said, “I used to be a bank teller. If you happen to have an account at the same bank as your mom, and she’s on your account, start a new account somewhere else ASAP. Also, move your money.”
Check Your Credit
One woman pre-empted a possible manipulative attempt by the mother to ruin her daughter’s credit rating. She suggested the daughter check her rating and dispute anything that looks out of place.
Finances
Someone else said, “Make sure she isn’t supporting you financially in any way. If she is, please have alternative support in place, because she is going to be furious when you out her for the monster that she is.”
Therapy
Others focused on the emotional side of having survived years of abuse. One concerned reader suggested, “Seek out trauma therapy. What you have endured is abuse, and getting help is going to be essential for your happiness and well-being.”
Coping Skills
Another said, “The coping skills you didn’t learn can be picked up in therapy and will be life-altering for the better. Abusers thrive on depriving their victims of coping skills.”
Update
In an update, the woman shared that she had taken all the advice on board, from packing all her documents to seeking counseling. This has helped a lot.
Financially Okay
She went on to say, “For all the people concerned about me being dependent on her financially, don’t be. I have money that I collected over the years from odd jobs and competitions. My friends have also promised to help me find a job.”
Emails and Texts
She said her mother had been bombarding her with texts and emails. So, she had to block her for the sake of her own sanity.
Angry Mother
Neighbors who she has been in touch with told her, they heard yelling and things crashing. They went to check it out and she had broken the glass living room table. The woman said, “I don’t care since I’m not there and neither are my siblings.”
Being Heard
She finished by saying, “It was surprising to find out that some people believed me. Some relatives and one of my brothers actually support me. My brother even said I can crash at his place whenever I need to and honestly, I’m grateful.”
