In a recent interview with Christiane Amanpour, Hilary Clinton warned that Donald Trump will likely be the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
She issued an explicit warning stating that the “MAGA extremists take their marching orders from Donald Trump” and likened his extreme followers to a “cult.”
Internecine Warfare Within the GOP

“It’s an internecine warfare within one party, the GOP,” stated Amanpour when discussing the probability of Trump being elected as the next Republican nominee.
Is Intimidation Dampening the Possibility of a Coalition?

Amanpour then asked Hilary Clinton if she believed a coalition was possible between Democrats and certain members of the Republican party.
“You saw the number of Republicans who voted, along with Democrats, to keep the Government open. So, there’s clearly a common sense. A sane part of the Republican caucus in the House. But I think they are intimidated,” said Clinton.
It Will Require Defeating Those Most Extreme Measures

Clinton further added to her views on a coalition, saying: “…it will require us defeating those most extreme measures and the people who promote them in order to get to some common ground where people can again work together.”
She then stated that is how it worked in the past, regardless of the “bitter battles” over climate change, gun control, the economy and taxes.
A Little Tail of Extremism, Wagging the Dog of the Republican Party

“But there wasn’t this little tail of extremism, waving, you know, wagging the dog of the Republican Party, as it is today. And sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure,” concluded Clinton over the idea of a coalition.
Trump Dogged by January 6 Attack on Congress

Trump refused to accept the loss of the 2020 Presidential election and intentionally stoked the deadly attack on Congress on January 6. Even after two impeachment trials, he still survives. Now facing 91 criminal charges, among a string of civil suits, he is still clearly the Republican frontrunner to face President Biden next year. But the attack on the Capital still dogs Trump, and with his impending trial set for March 2024, will this extinguish his support or further strengthen it?
The Indictments Actually Strengthened the Former President’s Position

Recent polling has indicated that the indictments actually strengthened the former President’s strong position as most Republican voters saw the charges as politically motivated. This also cemented the outsider status Trump’s voters love so much.
He’s Only in It for Himself

Trump has been accused multiple times of only being in it for himself. “He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions. And when do they break with him?” said Clinton. When will the “MAGA extremists” decide that Donald Trump has gone too far?
A Formal Deprogramming of the Cult Members

Hilary Clinton likened Trump’s following to a “cult” and further stated:
“…because at some point, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members.”
“How do you do that?” asked Amanpour.
She then asked if defeating them by defeating their leader [Donald Trump] would be possible.
Defeat Those Who Are Election Deniers

Hilary Clinton told Amanpour that the way to defeat Donald Trump was to defeat the voters who believed the 2020 Presidential election was rigged.
“…and we have to defeat those who are the election deniers, as we did in 2020 and 2022.”
Empower the Right People Inside the Republican Party

With Donald Trump’s supporters mindlessly following every word, how can the election deniers be defeated? And is it possible to sway Trump’s followers to take a step back and think about who they empower and how they should be accountable for their actions?
“…we have to be smarter about how we empower the right people inside the Republican Party,” said Clinton.
The Country Paid a Price Under Trump

Clinton then stated, “…the country paid a price” when under the control of former President Trump.
Can Desantis or Haley Prevail?

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida and Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and the Trump administration’s ambassador to the United Nations, are the two primary challengers. Are they able to take on the fierce, blind following that Donald Trump has built, or will they weaken to intimidation?
Potential Rematch Between Biden and Trump

Clinton was then asked about a potential rematch between Biden and Trump and what she thought, particularly after Trump’s 91 indictments and civil fraud cases.
“How is this still happening?” Amanpour asked Clinton.
A Classic Tale of an Authoritarian Populist

Clinton responded by saying it was “…a classic tale of an authoritarian populist who really has a grip on the emotional, psychological needs and desires of a portion of the population…”
A Nasty Form of Politics Resonates With Trump’s Followers

“They are determined that they will continue to vote for him, attend his rallies, wear his merchandise, because for whatever reason, he and his, you know, very negative, nasty form of politics resonates with them,” said Clinton. “Maybe they don’t like migrants. Maybe they don’t like gay people, or black people or the woman that got the promotion at work.”
Make America Great Again Was a Bid for Nostalgia

“Make America Great Again was a bid for nostalgia, to return to a place where, you know, people could be in charge of their lives, feel empowered, say what they want, insult whoever came in their way. And that was really attractive to a significant portion of the Republican base,” said Clinton.
Biden Will Defeat Trump, and the Fever Will Break

“So it is like a cult, and somebody has to break the, um, that momentum, and that’s why I believe Joe Biden will defeat him. And hopefully, that will be the end, and the fever will break.”
Get Back to Voting for People Who Are Responsible and Accountable

“Hopefully, then the Republicans can then get back to voting for people “who are at least, you know, responsible and accountable,” concluded Clinton.
