Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was completely demolished after struggling to answer Rep. Steny Hoyer’s (D-MD) questions in a one-on-one House debate. Boebert attempted to amend a spending bill to prohibit any funds from being used to violate federal immigration law in sanctuary cities — i.e., places that limit cooperation with national immigration legislation.
Hoyer Questions Boebert
Hoyer was perplexed by Boebert’s proposed amendment, asking her, “What funds in this bill are used for the purposes you are opposed to?” Boebert consulted with an aide before responding, “Sorry, I couldn’t hear the gentleman, I was getting clarification,” adding that “this is precautionary.”
Concern Over Refugees
“Precautionary for what?” Hoyer continued. “There are sanctuary city policies that are in place that are allowing the refuge of illegal aliens in this and there is an influx of crime and drugs in these cities and there is no way for these folks to even report what is taking place because they are protected under this fake policy that has been created that is subduing the actual rule of law that we have in the Constitution of the United States,” Boebert claimed.
Misunderstanding the Bill
Hoyer responded, “I understand that, but what you’ve said — none of the funds in this bill can be spent for that objective. What funds are in this bill that are to be spent for this objective?” in an effort to get Boebert to elaborate.
Bashing the Biden Administration
Boebert failed to answer Hoyer’s question and maintained that this was a potential problem, declaring that “I have seen this administration use all sorts of funds to protect illegal aliens.”
Hoyer Hits Back
“There are no funds in this bill to do that,” Hoyer declared. “So this is just an opportunity for you to stand and perhaps speak about an important subject, I understand that. But there are no funds in this bill to accomplish that objective. You don’t believe the chairman would put funds in to accomplish that objective, do you?”
Boebert’s Lack of Trust
Boebert revealed that she does not “trust this administration with any of the taxpayer funding,” accusing the government of “mishandling” such funds. She contended that if there was no funding for sanctuary cities then there was no reason not to include the amendment as a precaution.
Opening the Floodgates
It was clear Hoyer thought the amendment was ridiculous as he explained that “if we do this amendment, any subject that anybody has an interest in would be subject to such an amendment. The rules committee has waived points of order, contrary to what they said they wanted done when we were in charge, because they didn’t want points of order, but there are no funds in this bill, Mr. Speaker, for the objective that the gentlelady wants to prevent.”
Not the Right Place
Hoyer reiterated that “This amendment has no place in this bill because there is no money in this bill,” concluding that Boebert could “argue about the sanctuary cities and argue about the border and do all of that, but this is not the bill to do it on.”
Ripping Into Boebert
People online were quick to take hits at Boebert, with many calling her out for a lack of intelligence. “You can see the look of uncertain stupidity on her face for a moment when she realizes she has no idea how to answer the question, so then she defaults to shouting irrelevant nonsense… as a diversion. A true dumpster person,” one forum commenter wrote.
The Lowest IQ
“Likely the lowest IQ of anyone ever in US politics,” one person suggested. “Listening to her speak is enough reason to increase funding to the American education system,” another noted, while someone else replied, “Republicans don’t want that, they’ll lose their base.”
Zero Comprehension
Many forum members highlighted how Boebert was unable to respond competently as she didn’t even follow what Hoyer was asking of her. “She doesn’t even understand the question,” one user pointed out.
Boebert’s Rise to Notoriety
Several commenters referenced Boebert’s newsmaking scandal in which she was caught inappropriately touching a male companion in a live theater audience. “How she hasn’t just resigned herself to obscurity after her Beetlejuice scandal just boggles the mind,” decried one poster.
Typical Republican Tactics
Others noted that it was characteristic of GOP politicians to revert to blaming immigrants at any possible opportunity. One individual described this approach as “When cornered, confuse with bizarre xenophobic rhetoric — check.”
Knowing Their Audience
Some users felt that Boebert is the precise kind of lawmaker that Republican constituents like. “This is exactly why people like her and MTG and Trump get elected though. A significant percent of our populace has become so dumbed down, so painfully ignorant and misinformed, that they actually relate to Backwoods Barbie and her kind,” someone speculated.
Accusations of Clownery
“Bobo really is a clown,” one poster said. “The dumb— circus called, they’re missing their clown,” another added.
Loud and Wrong
“The point isn’t to understand anything,” one person argued. “The point is to always be the loudest in the room, whether you are ignorant or plain lying.” Someone else concurred, “Exactly, so she can go home and run ads about her “owning the libs” and “draining the swamp.”
Ironically Inspirational
One contributor had a slightly more optimistic take on the whole affair. “Lauren Boebert is an inspiration. She has shown us that no matter how stupid you are, or whether you didn’t even successfully meet the bare minimum expectation in a country with free education, you could be a member of Congress. She’s amazing. So remember, even if you’re a complete moron, you can achieve your goals,” they shared.
