Podcaster Joe Rogan has gathered a mixed response after reminiscing over former President Trump’s tenure during an episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience.” Rogan stated Americans were “without doubt” better off with Trump as President.
Rappers Would Always Talk About Trump
Joe Rogan, during his podcast, shared his memories of the former President, stating, “He was in all the rap songs, rappers would always talk about Trump, everybody loved Trump. He was like this wheeling, dealing billionaire character that everybody enjoyed.” But is it true that everyone loved Trump?
So, What Have Rappers Said About Trump?
It is true that before Trump’s first presidential bid, artists would often mention Trump in their lyrics as an indication of their own wealth.
Signifying a Status
Ja’han Jones wrote about Trump’s most memorable lines in hip-hop in MSNBC’s The ReidOut Blog. “Back then, artists would rap about staying at a Trump hotel to signify their status. Or they’d compare themselves to Trump to imply they were rolling in cash and had the right connections to make more of it…” he wrote.
It’s Going Down
To highlight his point, Ja’han Jones provided a varied range of examples in his article, including the lyrics for Yung Joc’s “It’s Goin’ Down” (2006): “Time to flip the work, make the block bump. Boys in the ’hood call me Black Donald Trump.”
Trump Quickly “Depleted His Hip-Hop Clout”
However, Jones explained how Trump lost love from the hip-hop artists once he entered politics. “Then, around 2016, we start to see a steep drop-off with the positive Trump references. Years of racist rhetoric aimed at Barack Obama — a popular figure in hip-hop, and Black culture more broadly — depleted Trump’s hip-hop clout,” wrote Jones.
Right-Wing Bigots Hurt Trump’s Rep
“And his rise to the White House, propelled by right-wing bigots, hurt his rep even more,” he continued.
Know How We Feel, Punk
Jones shared lyrics from famous hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 4” (2017): “Donald Trump is a chump, Know how we feel, punk — tell him that God comin’, And Russia need a replay button, y’all up to somethin’, Electorial votes look like memorial votes, But America’s truth ain’t ignorin’ the votes.”
Did Trump Do a Decent Job?
Back to Rogan’s questionable podcast, he continued his conversation with guests on his show. “I felt like he [Trump] did a decent job,” Dan Henderson told Rogan. “As President? When you look at his regulations, it certainly helped the economy,” Rogan said. “I feel like we were in a lot better spot then than now, for sure,” Henderson said. “Without a doubt,” Rogan agreed, recalling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rogan Discussed Unfounded COVID Therapies
In 2020, Joe Rogan experienced significant backlash over discussing alternative causes and therapies for COVID-19 on his podcast. He had around 70 separate Podcasts axed on Spotify.
Biden’s Policies Concern Rogan
Meanwhile, Rogan voiced his apprehension about Biden’s presidency and how it made him feel “scared” for the world.
Middle East- “There Are No Good Solutions.”
“Right now, I’m like, ‘Boy, this is not good.’ This Ukraine thing is not good, everything is not good,” Rogan went on to discuss the current conflicts around the world, “There’s no good solutions to the Middle East; all of it looks terrible, and the Ukraine thing looks terrible.”
The World Will Change Forever
Rogan described the possible threat of nuclear war and how the world would change “forever.” He added, “and I’ve never felt like that was a possibility in my lifetime until now…this must have been what it felt like at the beginning of World War 3, or World War 2 rather.”
Rogan Previously Turned Down Trump
Rogan has stated that he has declined requests for the ex-president to appear on his Joe Rogan Experience podcast “more than once.”
Previously Endorsed Bernie Sanders
In 2020, he expressed that he did not support Trump and had previously endorsed Bernie Sanders.
Trump Said Rogan Was “Interesting and Popular.”
Trump has previously posted about the comedian, stating, “Joe Rogan is an interesting and popular guy, but he’s got to stop apologizing to the Fake News and Radical Left maniacs and lunatics,” Trump said.
Rogan Apologized for Racial Slurs
The post followed Rogan’s use of racial slurs in old episodes of his podcast. He apologized, saying old shows contained things “that I wish I hadn’t said.” Trump posted in response, “How many ways can you say you’re sorry? Joe, just go about what you do so well, and don’t let them make you look weak and frightened,” “That’s not you, and it never will be!” Trump concluded.
Rogan Wasn’t Trying to Be Racist
“There’s nothing I can do to take that back. I wish I could. Obviously, that’s not possible,” Rogan added. “I certainly wasn’t trying to be racist, and I certainly would never want to offend someone for entertainment with something as stupid as racism.”
Rumble Offered Rogan $100 Million
Rumble’s CEO, the head of a right-wing video platform, extended a $100 million, four-year deal to Rogan to bring his show to their social media platform. Rogan declined the offer.
