A judge has reimposed a gag order on Donald Trump over his online outbursts and attacks in his election interference case – but the former president went on the attack again shortly afterward.
Trump-Hating Judge
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said US District Judge Tanya Chutkan should have stepped down from the case.
“I have just learned that the very biased, Trump-hating Judge in D.C., who should have RECUSED herself due to her blatant and open loathing of your favorite President, ME, has reimposed a GAG ORDER which will put me at a disadvantage against my prosecutorial and political opponents,” Trump raged.
Gag Order
Judge Chutkan imposed the order after Trump went after people involved in the case, including herself and Special Counsel Jack Smith, who has been investigating the fallout from the 2020 presidential election that the case is based on. Trump’s lawyers argued that the gag order violated his constitutional right to free speech and the judge temporarily suspended the measure, only to days later reimpose it.
Trump: “Unthinkable Order”
Trump continued in his Truth Social rant against the court: “This order, according to many legal scholars, is unthinkable! It illegally and unconstitutionally takes away my First Amendment right of free speech, in the middle of my campaign for president, where I am leading against BOTH parties in the polls.”
Can’t Believe It
The former president said he would not accept the ruling.
“Few can believe this is happening but I will appeal. How can they tell the leading candidate that he, and only he, is seriously restricted from campaigning in a free and open manner? It will not stand!”
Another Gag Order
Trump is also under gag order in a civil fraud trial taking place in Manhattan, after also attacking people in the case. He was fined $5,000 for violating the order by failing to delete an offensive social media post and a further $10,000 when he continued his attacks, including remarks against the judge, when speaking to reporters.
Still Yapping
People on social media pointed out that while Trump was again under gag order in the federal case, he continued to lash out. “From the looks of it, you’re still yapping,” said a user on X, formerly Twitter, under the handle FBIAgent42.
Ganging Up on Trump
Also commenting on X, grandma Rhonda Lynn offered support to the embattled former president. “They’re just making you more and more popular every day! Nobody likes a bully and people really hate when they see someone being ganged up on!”
Focus on the Issues
“Christ follower” Terry Lynn suggested on social media that Trump should lay off people involved in his many cases and instead focus on his presidential campaign.
“NOBODY involved in your trials are part of your political campaign and therefore should not be spoken about. Including, but not limited to, judges, witnesses, prosecutors, court staff,” she said. “Campaign on the issues affecting the United States right now like everyone else! Can you?”
2020 Election Indictment
A grand jury indicted Trump for allegedly working to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden. The charges also say he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power to the rightful winner of the vote. Trump denies the charges and says they’re the work of Democrats who want him away from the White House.
Strategically Timed Charges?
In a separate Truth Social post, Trump returned to this theme of blaming the opposition party for his legal woes.
“REMEMBER, CROOKED JOE BIDEN AND HIS RADICAL LEFT THUGS WAITED THREE YEARS TO BRING THESE INDICTMENTS & LAWSUITS AGAINST ME, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CAMPAIGN!”
Leading Candidate for GOP Nomination
Trump, who has been indicted four times and faces a total of 91 criminal charges, including alleged mishandling of classified government documents, is the frontrunner in the GOP race for the party nomination. He leads the Republican field by a margin of around 50 points and looks set to be selected by voters in primaries in January.
2024 Eligibility Challenges
Efforts are underway in two states to have Trump struck off the 2024 presidential ballot, with liberal groups’ lawyers arguing in Colorado and Minnesota this week that he is not eligible to run because he violated his oath of office by not upholding the US Constitution. That, they will argue, is due to his behavior following the 2020 election. Trump’s team says the cases should be thrown out because the insurrection clause in the Constitution does not apply to the president.
