A man shared his story of how he dealt with his neighbor who stole from him.
Neighbor Was a Wannabe Gangster
He said, “I rented a duplex in my early twenties. My neighbor was a wannabe gangster type.”
The Break-in
The man continued, “He made the mistake of breaking into my vehicle one night. I had a small SUV with a removable soft top, so the neighbor figured it would be easy pickings.
Missing Items

Knew the Culprit
He knew for certain who the culprit was. It wasn’t a heavily populated area and his neighbor was well known for stealing from other people.
Didn’t Call the Police
He thought the police wouldn’t do much if he called them. Despite knowing the culprit, he didn’t have any evidence.
Waited
He said, “I waited around for him to leave his place. When the opportunity arose, I went around the back of the house and looked through the bedroom window to find that sure enough, my stuff was sitting right on the floor in there.”
Tried the Window
The man instinctively tried the window. He was surprised to find it was unlocked.
Went Inside
He climbed through and quickly surveyed the items lying around. It occurred to him that he could get some revenge here if he played it right.
Wrote His Name
Rather than just recoup his stuff and wind up in a fight over it, he borrowed a marker pen. Then, he proceeded to write his name on all his stolen belongings, and also a few choice items of his just for good measure.
Called the Police
Then, he went home and waited. He said, “When my neighbor got home, I called the police and explained to them how my vehicle got robbed and I knew it was the neighbor, due to seeing him through the window.”
Knocked on the Neighbor’s Door
He went with the police to knock on his door. He said, “I can still remember the look on his face seeing me and the cop standing there. He was not even close to ready for the encounter and almost certainly had drugs on him, so was very cooperative.”
Return or Face Charges
The man politely explained that he knew he was the one who broke into his vehicle and he needed him to return his belongings immediately. Otherwise, he would have to press charges.
My Name
He said, “He went and retrieved my things and I pointed out my name written on them to the officer. I asked about my other stuff, while he looked dumbfounded.”
Listed Other Items
The man mentioned some of the other items that he also put his name on earlier. He described the look on his neighbor’s face as priceless, while he handed over his own items while the cop was standing there.
