In his campaign to be the Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has accelerated his attacks against rival and former president Donald Trump. For months, DeSantis avoided even mentioning his name when campaigning, but after sinking in the polls, he has made strong criticism of Trump a major part of his platform.
Video Evidence of Trump’s Cognitive Impairment
DeSantis’ campaign released 21 clips that included Trump mistakes such as confusing Biden with Obama and getting several other people mixed up: Kristi Noem and Nikki Haley, Biden and George Bush, George Bush and Jeb Bush, and RFK Jr with JFK Jr.
Trump’s Many Errors
Other clips showed Trump forgetting what state he was in, misnaming world leaders, praising Hezbollah, saying Turkey bordered Russia, confusing abortion laws, and so on. In one clip, Trump even told people not to vote; in another, he said World War II was about to begin.
DeSantis War Room
The thread was posted by the account @DeSantisWarRoom and described the series as “a running list of every one of Donald Trump’s fumbles, accidents, and confused moments from this year. (NOTE: this is why his handlers won’t let him debate).”
Too Little, Too Late
Despite this, Trump is still the frontrunner in the race, and currently holds a 39-point lead over DeSantis in the governor’s home state of Florida. Many experts speculate that despite DeSantis’ new ruthless approach, it won’t be enough for him to cinch the nomination.
The Attention He Wanted
DeSantis’ focus on Trump’s mental decline has certainly provided him with the attention he was looking for to help boost his campaign. “I hate myself when I agree with DeSantis,” one online forum commenter shared. “It’s just that he’s desperate enough to acknowledge the truth, trying to attack the orange menace,” someone else replied.
Stating the Obvious
Many people expressed that Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans have been aware of Trump’s clear psychological issues for a long time. “He also recently discovered that the pope is Catholic,” one person joked. “THIS JUST IN: Water is wet!” someone added.
Finding the Courage
“Wonder what exactly is giving DeSantis this courage to speak against the anointed one after years of cowardice?” one user wrote. Many people observed how DeSantis is ineligible to run for governor again and his chance of winning the Republican nomination is slim, so he has little to lose.
“Decline From What?”
One commenter wondered, “Decline from what? He’s always been a f—ing moron.” Another person reiterated the sentiment, declaring that “It’s not a steep decline really, Trump has been impaired all through his presidency but his people are too emeshed in their cult-think to see it.”
A Noticable Difference
A few people disagreed, with one person responding that Trump has always been as bad as he is now, but that he “used to speak much more coherently.” Someone else said the difference was his “low energy” now versus during his presidency.
The Senior Cognitive Test
“But didn’t Trump pass the senior cognitive test while he was in office? Y’know, the vigorous one they give you when they’re concerned about your behavior? There’s a picture of a giraffe and everything,” one forum member asked sarcastically.
Speaking From Experience
“As an old person who has had that test administered a few times during the yearly exam, I will never stop rolling my eyes when he brags about “acing” it,” one person shared. “It is… not rigorous.”
Not the Only Time
The X thread isn’t the only time DeSantis has bashed Trump’s cognitive ability. A video has also circulated the internet of him addressing a group of people, claiming that “Trump is wedded to the teleprompted. He can’t get off that that teleprompter. Every time he does, he says things like ‘don’t vote.’ He’s telling people not to vote? Really?”
Both Bad Options
Despite many agreeing with DeSantis’ assessement of Trump, few people liked him as a candidate or person. “This guy is a phony too. I wouldn’t vote for either,” one commenter wrote. “That’s the title for every GOP really,” another responded.
Even Worse Than He Seems
Others were of the opinion that DeSantis is no better than Trump. One user explained that DeSantis is “way worse” than a phony, and that “He uses the power of the state to go after whistleblowers and political dissidents. He’s 100% a fascist s—bag.”
Derogatory Nicknames
Commenters enjoyed using derogratory nicknames for DeSantis, with some dubbing him “DeFascist” and others preferring to use “DeSatan.”
Anticipating an Endorsement
The forum agreed that DeSantis would still be giving his endorsement to Trump when he inevitably beats him in the primary. “DeSantis says this about him now but next year he will be emphasizing how we have to vote for Trump because of Biden’s cognitive decline,” someone suggested.
Is Biden Also Suffering Cognitive Decline?
“Any Democrats willing to admit the same about Biden? I mean, seriously, anyone,” one forum member questioned. “Biden is in the Middle East working,” one person retaliated. “Like an adult. So no, probbaly not, not unless Biden actually starts declining,” they concluded, while someone else called the current president “a shell of the man he was.”
