“Invoking the 14th Amendment Is a Way to “Short-Circuit the Ballot Box.”

Raffensperger wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, “Invoking the 14th Amendment is merely the newest way of attempting to short-circuit the ballot box,”

“Losing Candidates Are Trying to “Sue Their Way to Victory.”

Raffensperger further stated, “Since 2018, Georgia has seen losing candidates and their lawyers try to sue their way to victory. It doesn’t work. Stacey Abrams’s claims of election mismanagement following the 2018 election were rejected in court, as were Mr. Trump’s after the 2020 election.”

“Denying Voters the Opportunity to Choose Is Fundamentally Un-American.”

He stated that the determination of whether Trump will become the GOP nominee or the next President should ultimately rest in the hands of the voters. He emphasized that any alternative approach that deprives voters of this choice would “erode the belief in our uniquely American representative democracy.”

The Georgia Secretary of State argued that blocking Trump from the ballot “would only reinforce the grievances of those who see the system as rigged and corrupt.”

“Trust the Voters”

Raffensperger went on further to say, “The American people will make their own decisions … Most of the time, they will get it right. Trust the voters.”

Yet a columnist for MSNBC, Hayes Brown, hit back over the op-ed, stating, “The Republican’s piece is more about how he shouldn’t block Trump and less about whether he could.” Brown said that Raffensperger’s statement that “he shouldn’t and can’t” block Trump from the ballot makes the Georgia Secretary of State “wrong on both fronts.”

“The 2024 Election Won’t Be Decided by Prosecutors”

“The 2024 election won’t be decided by prosecutors,” wrote Raffensperger. “It won’t be decided by John Eastman. And it won’t be decided by the vice president, whose role is simply to oversee a joint session of Congress in which each state’s electors are counted.”

Supporters have hailed Raffensperger as a hero for refusing to back down from his defense of the 2020 election. Some believe he’s banking on the belief that voters will endorse his re-election based on his performance in office and his willingness to confront Trump, even if they prefer the former President.

“Every Allegation That Was Made Was Checked Out.”

“Every allegation that was made, we checked it all out. As an engineer, you want to make sure you check it out, right? Because you don’t want to look foolish,” Raffensperger said in a previous interview. He has previously detailed how he investigated Trump’s election fraud claims in 2020. A total of three ballot counts in the state affirmed Biden’s victory.

“All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state,” Trump said on the scandalous call. Raffensperger refused the request, enraging Trump.

Can Trump Be Disqualified?

The Secretary of State now faces further pressure to block Trump from the ballot as some legal scholars, as well as Democrats and potential GOP presidential candidates, have suggested the possibility that Trump could be disqualified from holding the office of President because of purported actions he took to maintain his grip on power after departing the White House.

Trump is attempting to replace the current Secretary of State Raffensperger with Jody Hice, a Republican congressman who previously argued the 2020 election was stolen and also joined Trump’s efforts to overturn it.

All Eyes Should Be on This Race Between Raffensperger and Hice,”

“All eyes should be on this race between Raffensperger and Hice,” said Joanna Lydgate, CEO of States United Action. “Georgia was a place in 2020 where we watched three statewide elected officials stand up and protect the vote, protect the will of the voters. If we want to see that happen again in 2024, if there are further efforts to undermine our elections and the results and ultimately the will of American voters, we need to make sure that we’re electing people who fundamentally believe in the system.”
