According to a recent Washington Post report, it is claimed that supporters of Trump are considering strategies to suppress potential public unrest following his possible return to the Presidency, potentially utilizing military force. Several right-wing organizations are purportedly exploring the option of invoking the Insurrection Act shortly after Trump’s inauguration if he were to win the 2024 election.

Washington Post Reports on Right-Wing Think Tank

In the Washington Post’s report, a consortium of conservative think tanks known as Project 2025 was reportedly engaged in formulating the strategy. The publication indicated they had acquired communications from the right-wing coalition, underscoring the urgency of planning for such an event.

Project 2025 to Rescue the Country From the Radical Left

Project 25 openly states on its website that it is saving the country from the “radical left” and will put the right people in place. “It is not enough for conservatives to win elections. If we are going to rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left, we need both a governing agenda and the right people in place, ready to carry this agenda out on Day One of the next conservative Administration.”

Paving the Way for an Effective Conservative Administration

The right-wing group further added, “This is the goal of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. The project will build on four pillars that will, collectively, pave the way for an effective conservative Administration.”

The right-wing think tank is run by Paul Dans, the former Trump Administration’s Chief of Staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Dans managed the federal agency in charge of human resources policy for more than two million federal workers.

Trump Focused On “Crushing His Opponents.”

Trump’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, issued a statement in response to the Washington Post’s report. He said, “President Trump is focused on crushing his opponents in the primary election and then going on to beat Crooked Joe Biden.”

Cheung further stated, “President Trump has always stood for law and order and protecting the Constitution.”

Trump Would Appoint a Special Prosecutor

Trump has posted on Truth Social recently that he would “APPOINT A REAL SPECIAL ‘PROSECUTOR’” in an effort to take down Biden, his family, and “ALL OTHERS INVOLVED WITH THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR ELECTIONS, BORDERS, & COUNTRY ITSELF.”

In addition to the claims made by the Washington Post, Axios published their own report on Project 25. The article written by Jonathan Swan states, “They intend to stack thousands of mid-level staff jobs. Well-funded groups are already developing lists of candidates selected often for their animus against the system — in line with Trump’s long-running obsession with draining ‘the swamp.’ This includes building extensive databases of people vetted as being committed to Trump and his agenda.”

Schedule F Can Be Quickly Instated

The Axios report highlighted Schedule F, an executive order “developed and refined in secret over most of the second half of Trump’s term and launched 13 days before the 2020 election.” Schedule F was quickly rescinded by Biden when he took power, but if Trump were to return to the White House, it could be rapidly reinstated, the report warned.

Schedule F Could Apply to 50,000 Employees

“An initial estimate by the Trump official who came up with Schedule F found it could apply to as many as 50,000 federal workers — a fraction of a workforce of more than 2 million, but a segment with a profound role in shaping American life,” The report from Axios continued.

The report then stated if Trump were to reinstate schedule F, he could, “in theory,” fire tens of thousands of government officials “with no recourse for appeals.” Swan explained, “He could replace them with people he believes are more loyal to him and his “America First” agenda.”

Trump Inquired About Deploying Military After Election Loss

Furthermore, it is not the first time Trump has played with the idea of invoking martial law. Two years ago, an article by Nicholas Reimann for Forbes reported that the former President had allegedly inquired about the idea of deploying the military. The idea came from his former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn. Flynn had stated that the army could be deployed to overturn the 2020 Presidential election results, suggesting a rerun could be possible.

Senior Officials Became Very Unsettled

New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman also reported at that time, “senior officials were reportedly becoming very unsettled by Trump’s escalating interest in crackpot plans during his last days in power.”

Flynn suggested that Trump might use the military to intervene in the swing states he lost to Biden, intending to force a “rerun” of the presidential election.

Declaring Martial Law Is No Big Deal

The New York Times also reported a few years ago that one senior official stated that Trump “spends his time talking to conspiracy nuts who openly say declaring martial law is no big deal.”

Trump Could Take Military Capabilities

“Within the swing states, if he wanted to, he could take the military capabilities, and he could place them in those states and basically rerun an election in each of those states,” Flynn said in a Newsmax Show.

Flynn’s Suggestion Came After Presidential Pardon

Flynn’s proposal surfaced shortly within a month of Trump pardoning him in a case where Flynn had confessed to making false statements to Special Counsel Robert Mueller during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Users reacted online to the recent report in the Washington Post. One user posted, “He’s [Trump] going full blown Nazi.” Another user posted, “Well if there are no repercussions from the federal laws he’s already violated, why not violate some more?”
