Heather Williams, the interim president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said that voters have grown fed up across the country. “In district after district, they’re finding an electorate that is fighting back against their extremist views and policies,” she said while speaking The Nation publication.

Most recently, Donald Trump supporters were likened to Nazis in 1930s Germany by retired four star general Barry McCaffrey.  He said what the United States is seeing with Trump-supporting Republicans is “a parallel to the 1930s in Nazi Germany”

While speaking Wednesday on MSNBC’s All in with Chris Hayes, McCaffrey warned Trump’s “cult” following was concerning.  “This is all worth being extremely concerned about,” McCaffrey said as he discussed Trump’s recent comments about General Mark Milley.

Trump had snapped at Milley, the retiring chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, over phone calls he made to China in the final months of Trump’s presidency.  Speaking on Truth Social, Trump said Miley’s actions were “an act so egregious that, in time gone by, the punishment would have been death!”

“This is a cult, a lawless cult”, says McCaffrey of MAGA loyalists

“I don’t say that’s the Republican Party. That’s 15-25 House members, a couple of senators and all those who are Trump MAGA loyalists,” McCaffrey continued. “This is a cult. It’s a lawless cult, and it’s a major threat to the armed forces of the United States and our security.”

Supported By The Numbers

According to data from FiveThirtyEight, the Democrats have been finishing 11 points better than the historic voting patterns of their districts would have predicted. Highlighting that those concerned with an increasing extremist rhetoric from some on the right-wing are prepared to take action through voting.

The Gap Is Shrinking

However, this better than predicted performance does not mean the Democrats are winning every race. In some instances this will mean the gap between Republican and Democrat candidates is closing.

Flipping Seats And Gaining Control

In other instances, Democrats are flipping Republican seats and increasing the prospect they will take control of legislative chambers controlled by the GOP.

Trends for 2024

If these trends continue going into 2024, the Democrats could see a blue wave in the state and national election of 2024, according to some political analysts.

Recent Victories

In recent weeks, Democrat Hal Rafter, a veteran local official, was able to defeat Republican James Guzofsk in New Hampshire. This election occurred as the Republican incumbent had chosen to step aside. Rafter was able to win in a 12-point landslide.

If the Democrats can achieve another victory in New Hampshire this November the state house will have an evenly split legislature.  With a few more seats still up for grabs Democrats have the opportunity to take charge of the New Hampshire house overall.

Not All Clear Sailing For Biden

Despite the indications that the Democrats and Biden could see a boost in 2024, this is not set in stone.  The Director of the Democracy Institute Patrick Basham last week reflected on the upcoming 2024 Presidential election and how things are looking for the Democrats and Republicans.

Biden Faces Negative Reception Over His Presidency

“The great irony is that no matter what issue you choose any opinion you ask of how Biden’s doing as president, how his administration is doing, the numbers come back very negative and increasingly so,” Basham said. “Yet, Biden is in a comparatively competitive position, you’ve still got 40 to 45 percent of the country who are definitely going to vote for him if he’s the Democratic candidate, and he almost certainly will be.

Some Democrats Will Vote For Him Regardless

“I think it speaks to a couple of things. It speaks to the fact that America or half the country anyway, distinguishes between their own views on an issue and their partisan loyalty,” he continued. “Clearly you have a lot of Democrats who aren’t impressed with Biden and unimpressed with his policies but there’s just no way they’re going to vote Republican or Donald Trump, if he’s the nominee for the Republicans.

“Doing His Best” Voters View Biden As A “Kindly Uncle” Says Basham

“They think that as poorly as Biden is doing, they still think of him as a kindly uncle or grandpa more these days. “He’s doing his best in a tough spot. And he’s the least worst option.

Polls Show Biden Losing To Trump But He’s Competitive According to Basham

“That’s why if you put Biden up against Trump we have them losing but he’s competitive. “You put any other Democrat and they lose to Trump, sometimes catastrophically as in the case of Kamala Harris.”
