Donald Trump Tears Into Mike Pence, Chris Christie and Ron DeSantis in Scathing Rant

Donald Trump attacked many of his Republican candidate nominees in a “report card” styled post on social media. 

Trump Refuses To Debate Opponents

Despite being the leading candidate for the Republican party’s 2024 Presidential nomination, Trump has refused to take part in the party’s debates.

The Republican candidates that took part in the debate were Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.  

Trump Continues To Slam Rivals

In a Truth Social post following the debate, that took place on Wednesday, the former President most notably mocked rival Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence and Nikki Haley.  “Watched Debate = Report Card. Sloppy Chris Christie was a disaster, a Trump deranged lunatic,” Trump said of his former adviser in the post.

During the debate, Christie took a moment to speak directly to the former president and gave him an unflattering nickname.

Donald Trump should be here to answer for that but he is not,” Christie said. “I know you are watching, and you are not here tonight, not because of polls and not because of your indictments.

You are not here tonight because you are afraid of being on this stage and defending your record. “You are ducking these things. You keep doing that and no one up here is going to call you Donald Trump anymore, we are going to call you Donald Duck.”   

Trump Attacks Mike Pence But Offers Optimism

“Lyin’ Mike Pence has lost a lot of his energy. Very flat, needs me badly. Actually, quite sad to watch, but he’ll get better,” Trump said of his former vice president. Last year Trump said Pence had “committed political suicide” by refusing to endorse and support his false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Attacks from Trump have followed since Pence’s refusal.

“Ron DeSanctimonious had a bad night. He can feel the end is near. Drop like a rock,” Trump added  Even before Ron DeSantis announced he was running in the 2024 election, Trump has attacked the Florida Governor despite previously endorsing him.   

DeSantis Polling Poorly

Although DeSantis was considered one of the new favourite Republican faces that could run for President, his popularity, according to recent polling, has continued to dwindle.  Recent survey from polling aggregate site FiveThirtyEight has shown DeSantis has been losing much ground against Trump. In the 2024 Republican presidential nomination Trump has an average of 54.7 percent of the Republican votes while DeSantis has an average of 13.9 percent, putting him in a distanced second position.   

Trump Accuses Nikki Haley Of Disloyalty

“Nikki ‘Birdbrain’ Haley was exposed for her caustic disloyalty and lies about the Republican Party, and me,” Trump said. “Doesn’t have what it takes, never did.” While Haley has been critical of Trump both prior to and during his presidency, she has most recently said he would support him as their party’s nominee in the 2024 race even if he was convicted of a felony.  

Trump Offers Praise To Some Opponents

Surprisingly, Trump did offer some form of praise to his nominee rivals in his Truth Social post.  “Doug Burgum did a very good job, solid and smart,” Trump stated.

“Tim Scott stepped it up. Wonderful guy. Looking forward to getting his endorsement.  “Vivek said I was a great President. Thank you. Good job.”  

Trump Rules out Rivals for Vice President

During the debate on Wednesday, Trump gave a speech at a non-union auto parts manufacturing company in Michigan.  While there he dismissed the idea he would be consider any of them to his Vice President if he does become the top nominee.

“It’s all over television, this speech,” Trump said while speaking to his crowd. “You know, we’re competing with the job candidates? They’re all running for a job. No, they’re all job candidates.” “They want to be in the… they’ll do anything. Secretary of something, they even say [Vice President],” he continued. “I don’t know, does anybody see any VP in the group? I don’t think so.”  

Spokesperson Reiterates Trump Point on Candidates

Steven Cheun, a spokesperson for Trump was contacted for comment by Newsweek after the former President’s speech.  Cheun stated that “President Trump was crystal clear”, regarding whether Trump’s remarks meant those in the debate had been dropped from consideration as his running mate.
