“But She Needs Him To Create Her Christian Nationalist Dream”: Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants House Speaker Mike Johnson To Be “Ousted”

Marjorie Taylor Greene, still seemingly obsessed with ending Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib’s career, has suggested that Speaker Mike Johnson “should be ousted.”

The Reason Behind Greene’s Remark

Greene wasn’t happy with Speaker Johnson because he didn’t tell Republicans to vote for her attempt to censure Tlaib. Greene had tried, and failed, to get Tlaib censured because she condemned Israel for its massacre of Palestinian civilians. The death toll is now thought to be around 10,000, 4,000 of which were children.

Johnson Didn’t Whip Votes

Greene said: “Well, [Johnson] didn’t whip votes for it. He told people to vote their conscience. So he was not supportive of it. You know, in our conference we had Matt Gaetz, and seven other Republicans, that declared red lines, where any speaker that passes a CR or funds Ukraine war funding should be ousted.”

Funding Foreign Wars

Continuing, the Georgia Republican said: “So my question is, we’re about to have speaker Mike Johnson pass the CR and he is talking about passing mega, mega Ukraine funding…  trying to pair it with border security, pretending that the Biden administration is going to do anything to secure our borders. And he’s already funded another foreign war, which is Israel.”

The House of Hypocrites

Greene concluded by suggesting that Johnson should be “ousted” as per Gaetz’s “red lines.” She said: “Where are the red lines? Do they still apply? I’m just tired of the hypocrisy. I’ve been calling this place the house of hypocrites ever since I was elected. And I still continue to find it to be so.”

A Christian Nationalist

Greene’s remarks about Johnson will likely be a shock to many. As a self-described “Christian nationalist,” one would expect her to be delighted by his rise to speaker. Johnson believes that the Earth is 6,000 years old and that Genesis is an accurate account of history.

Evolution and Government Abuse

As if that weren’t enough, Johnson once described teaching evolution in public schools as “government abuse.” In an interview with a fellow creationist who mentioned learning about evolution, he said: “The concern that you’re articulating should be of concern to more than just creationists. All freedom-loving Americans ought to have grave concerns about these government abuses.”

The Fossil Record

In response to someone suggesting that children need to be taught about creationism so they understand that “the fossil record wasn’t laid down over millions of years [because] that’s the graveyard of the flood,” Johnson said: “I think that’s right.”

Anti-LGBTQ+, Anti-Abortion, Anti-Birth Control

Johnson also has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, anti-abortion rhetoric, and anti-birth control rhetoric. Because of all this, a lot of people are naturally confused about why Greene wants him ousted. Given her ongoing feud with fellow far-right Republican Lauren Boebert, it’s possible that she somehow struggles to get along with people who share similar views.

The Internet’s Response

News of Greene’s frustration with Johnson was shared across the internet and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. One person said: “For once, I tend to agree with her. Shudders while I write this comment.”

Dumb as a Brick

Others were quite harsh with their words and their assessments of Greene: “Well, she can simply resign if she feels that way about her colleagues. She should do her constituents a favor since she’s dumb as a brick.”

Watching the Far-Right Disintegrate

Another commenter wrote: “Yes, keep the chaos coming. Let it last until election day. Show the whole country, yet again, how dysfunctional your whole party is. This is so much fun, watching this group disintegrate.”

Always in the News

One person said that Greene’s habit of making headlines suggests she doesn’t spend much time actually fulfilling her duties: “If she would actually do her job, she would be too busy to always be in the news all of the time.”

Dismissing Individual Thought

Another individual wrote: “Wow. So she’s not happy that people voted the way they think is right but wants them to just vote the way she wants them to. Individual thought vs. herd/gang mentality. Someone with introspection might think that if the majority disagree with them, then perhaps they might want to assess their position vs. the position of others.”

A Dictator as Speaker

One person compared what Greene seemingly wants to a dictator: “Sounds like the Republicans want a dictator as the speaker! Mikey Johnson told them to vote their conscience? Many Republicans don’t know what that is.”

A Lifelong Registered Republican

GOP voters said they’d be turning their backs on the party: “This Republican Party is in utter shambles. I’ve been a registered Republican for 50 years and it will take a miracle for me to vote for another Republican again. What a disaster.”

An Embarrassment to Georgia

“Hasn’t Margorie Taylor Greene demonstrated beyond any doubt that she isn’t capable of exercising good judgment? She does a good job of embarrassing the people who elected her,” another commenter wrote.

Upending Things in the House

Plenty of people weren’t surprised. One such individual said: “You mean the far-right whackos are planning to upend things again in the House and no one in their party can control them enough to get things done? Cue my obvious lack of surprise. This has been going on ever since McCarthy took 15 votes to be elected speaker and only got it from making a devil’s deal with this fringe.”

A Christian Nationalist Dream

Others didn’t understand why Greene would be against someone who shares her Christian nationalist ambitions: “But she needs him to create her Christian nationalist dream. I don’t understand these people. There is no logic to their actions at all.”
