US Senator and unlikely GOP nominee Tim Scott recently wrote an Op-ed in which he claimed Humanitarian Aid being sent to Palestine was being redirected to Hamas and Iran. His op-ed headline included the statement, “And don’t give the terrorists taxpayer cash.”
Scott Claims Misinformation War on “Ravaged Israeli People” More Deadly
In his op-ed, Sen. Scott claims that a misinformation war could be more lethal for the people of Israel, but Scott, in his op-ed himself, joins the misinformation war by stating false facts himself. “The misinformation war could be just as if not more deadly than the ongoing conflict that has ravaged the Israeli people,” Tim Scott wrote.
Scott Claims Dozens of Lives Lost in Hospital Strike
“In another front, Hamas launched a misinformation campaign built on a lie that an Israeli missile struck a hospital, killing hundreds,” penned Scott. “ The truth is Hamas-aligned Islamic Jihad fired the rocket, and dozens of innocent civilians in Gaza lost their lives,” he continued.
Who Fired the Rocket?
Several news broadcasters have admitted to making an error in their initial reports about a rocket attack on a Gaza hospital. During a live broadcast, BBC correspondent Jon Donnison suggested that an Israeli air strike might be responsible for the explosion at the hospital in a live report.
Reporter Claimed Israeli Air Strike Hit Gaza Hospital
The reporter told viewers, “But it’s hard to see what else this could be really given the size of the explosion other than an Israeli air strike or several air strikes.”
Hamas Claimed Hundreds Died
Hamas initially claimed that 500 people at the Al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza had died in the attack.
Another Report Stated a Misfired Hamas Rocket Hit Hospital
However, subsequent evidence, including Al Jazeera live footage showing rockets fired from Gaza into Israel and information from the Israeli military, indicated that a Hamas rocket misfire had hit the hospital.
Follow-up Reports Suggest No Fatalities
Subsequent reports and visual evidence indicated that the rocket had hit the hospital’s parking lot, and there were “no reported fatalities.”
Repeating False Claims Adds Fuel to the Fire
Unlike Smith’s Op-ed statements that “dozens of innocent civilians in Gaza lost their lives” over the “Jihad” fired rocket, it seems that the story that swept the world was just misinformation that Smith then repeated in his Op-ed, while at the same time, stating misinformation is deadly to Israelis.
Scott Accuses Squad of “Parroting Hamas Propaganda”
Scott also lashed out at Democratic members of the “Squad,” accusing them of parroting propaganda while, at the same time, repeating Hamas claims of Palestinians killed in a rocket strike on the Gaza hospital. “Then the Democratic members of the so-called “Squad,” such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib, parroted Hamas propaganda in social-media posts,” he said. “Rep. Pramila Jayapal practically copy-pasted Hamas propaganda this year and called Israel ‘a racist state.’” Scott wrote.
“Israel Is an Apartheid State.”
“Israel is an apartheid state, engaged in racist oppression against Palestinians,” wrote Rep. Rashida Tlaib on X (Twitter.) “When the murderers wear Israeli uniforms? Silence….” She concluded.
Sen. Scott “Leading the Effort” to Stop Aid to Gaza
Senator Scott claims he is leading an effort to stop aid to Palestine. “That’s why I’m leading the effort in the Senate to stop sending money into Gaza until Israel wipes Hamas off the face of the Earth.”
Scott Alleges It’s “Black and White”
Scott’s argument boils down to unfounded allegations that humanitarian aid sent by the US to help Palestinian citizens is being redirected to Hamas and Iran. “We cannot send money to Iran or Hamas. It is black and white,” he concluded his op-ed.
More Than 400 Congress Staff Call for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire
In a recent development, over 400 Congressional staffers have signed an open letter advocating for an immediate ceasefire. “We are Jewish and Muslim staffers and allied staff across the Hill…” “We feel compelled to raise our voices in this moment…” “Millions of lives hang in the balance, including the 2.3 million civilians—half of whom are children—in Gaza, civilians in Israel, and Jews and Muslims around the world,” the letter read.
Six-Year-Old Boy Killed in Alleged Hate Crime
“This is especially urgent with antisemitism, anti-Muslim, and anti-Palestinian sentiment on the rise nationwide, which instigated the brutal murder of a six-year-old Palestinian-American child, Wadea Al-Fayoume,” the letter continued.
Catastrophic Suffering
“We appreciate the Members’ condemnations of the atrocities committed by Hamas against Israeli civilians…” “At the same time, we mourn for the Palestinian civilians who are enduring catastrophic suffering at the hands of the Israeli government.”
More Than 6,000 Bombs Dropped on Gaza Strip
“As of this writing, more than 6,000 bombs have been dropped on the Gaza Strip. More than 4,000 Palestinian civilians, including entire families, have been slain, and about 12,500 are injured.” Congress staffers continued in their open letter, pleading for a ceasefire.
Guterres: Attacks Cannot Justify “Collective Punishment”
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, in a recent speech, has said, “But the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas. And those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people,”
US Ambassador Slammed Guterres’ Speech.
Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan posted criticism on X of the UN chief’s speech, saying that it proved “beyond any doubt” that Guterres was “disconnected from the reality in the region.” The Ambassador further alleged that Hamas was carrying out a “massacre” of Israeli people.
All Must “Pull Back From the Brink.”
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to deliver desperately needed aid to Palestinians. Guterres passionately appealed for “all to pull back from the brink before the violence claims even more lives and spreads even farther.”
“Not a Penny to Gaza”
Less than a handful of people took the time to post on Smith’s Op-ed, with one online X user agreeing with Sen. Smith’s Op-ed posting, “I agree Not a penny to Gaza until hostages are released, and Hamas is gone.”
“Atrocities Breed More Atrocities”
Many users commented on António Guterres’s speech. An online user posted in support of the UN chief’s speech, “Atrocities breed more atrocities” should be a pretty obvious and unremarkable observation.” With many calling for a ceasefire and millions of lives depending on it, will the message ever be heard over the war of misinformation?
