18 Bizarre Trump Quotes That Will Make You Do a Double Take: Did He Really Say That?

Imagine a world where everything you say becomes the highlight of someone’s day or the topic of a late-night show. For better or worse, Trump has that effect! With each new statement, he leaves us thinking, “Did he really just say that?” Well, the answer is usually “yes.” Join us as we take a wander through some of the most…”interesting” moments of Trump’s oratory adventures.

Bragging About Brains

“Sorry, losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest – and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” It seems Trump couldn’t resist flaunting his intelligence. It’s like hearing someone say they’re the smartest person in the room… but this room is America. Makes you wonder, did he take an IQ test, or is this just classic Trump confidence?

Saying Sorry… Later?

“I think apologizing’s a great thing, but you have to be wrong. I will absolutely apologize, sometime in the hopefully distant future, if I’m ever wrong.” Trump has a unique perspective on apologies, doesn’t he? The idea of storing up an “I’m sorry” for a rainy day is certainly an interesting one. Umbrellas out, folks!

The Great Debate on Water

“When you see the other side chopping off heads, waterboarding doesn’t sound very severe.” In a world where comparisons abound, Trump’s method of measuring the severity of actions surely stands out. Just because the other ‘side’ uses more aggressive forms of torture doesn’t suddenly mean that waterboarding is now acceptable!

Speedy Decisions Over PC

“I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people, and I don’t, frankly, have time for total political correctness.” For Trump, it seems the clock’s always ticking, and there’s no minute to waste on being overly polite or nuanced. Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut, right?

Honoring War Heroes, Trump Style

“John McCain’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” This statement was particularly jarring to many, especially military members. Is it the capture that defines a hero, or is it the bravery and sacrifice? Trump made his stance on this pretty clear.

Personal Feats Over National Trade

“Our country is in serious trouble. We don’t have victories anymore. We used to have victories, but we don’t have them. When was the last time anybody saw us beating, let’s say China, in a trade deal? I beat China all the time. All the time.” According to Trump, personal business wins are the same as national victories. But it makes you wonder if we need a scoreboard!

The Cool Take on Warming

“It’s really cold outside, they are calling it a major freeze, weeks ahead of normal. Man, we could use a big fat dose of global warming.” If only global warming meant more sunny days at the beach! Unfortunately, it’s a bit more complicated than that. Maybe someone could send him a climate change pamphlet along with that sweater?

Ladies’ Man Trump?

“I will be phenomenal to the women. I want to help women.” This was pretty ironic, given his other statements about grabbing women by certain parts. He also didn’t clarify what he meant by being “phenomenal” to women. What did he want to do that would help them out so much? The jury’s out on this one!

A Glimpse Over the Border

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems.” Trump’s concerns about immigration could perhaps have been said in a less… generalizing manner. But that might just be part of his appeal for many Americans.

The Talk of the Town – A Wall

“I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.” This became the centerpiece of many of his rallies. Just imagine a wall so grand it puts the Great Wall of China to shame and Mexico willingly handing over a check. It’s quite a picture, but it seems like it must be fiction!

Daddy-Daughter Dates?

While discussing his daughter, Ivanka Trump, Donald remarked, “I don’t think Ivanka would do that inside the magazine. Although she does have a very nice figure. I’ve said that if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I would be dating her.” This bizarre statement raised many an eyebrow. Can you imagine sitting at the dinner table after this one?

Trump’s Lincoln Theory

“Nobody’s ever been treated badly like me… Although they do say Abraham Lincoln was treated really badly.” Trump drew an odd comparison between himself and the 16th President of the United States. While Lincoln faced massive criticism and assassination, this is perhaps not the comparison most would jump to make. But then again, most aren’t Trump.

Bleach Over Science?

(About using bleach to fight COVID) “Is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? It sounds interesting to me, so we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful.” Medical experts around the globe collectively facepalmed, and it sent doctors racing to issue warnings.

The Coke Observation

“I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.” It’s a bold statement, one that had many Diet Coke drinkers checking their reflections. Does Trump have some secret insight into the soda world we don’t know about? Probably not. We think he’s just not visited the right diners to know how good a Diet Coke can really taste!

Hillary’s Secret Weapon

Editorial credit: Andrew Cline / Shutterstock.

Hillary Clinton’s run for the presidency was eventful, to say the least. Trump said, “The only card she has is the woman’s card. She’s got nothing else to offer, and frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card, and the beautiful thing is, women don’t like her.”

Kim Jong-un and Friendship Goals

“Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me old when I would never call him short and fat? Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend, and maybe someday that will happen.” It’s a rollercoaster of emotions in just a few lines. It’s like a soap opera on the world stage, from hurt feelings to longing for friendship!

A Tough Stance on Abortion

When Trump was asked about his views on abortion, he didn’t hold back from sharing his opinion. “The answer is there has to be some form of punishment.” The statement sparked intense debate across the country. Abortion is already a topic rife with emotion and tension, which added more fuel to the fire.

Obama and Baltimore’s Troubles

Editorial credit: Grindstone Media Group / Shutterstock.

“Our great African-American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.” Trump’s way of linking former President Barack Obama to the Baltimore unrest was puzzling for many. Baltimore’s challenges are nuanced, and pointing fingers at presidential influence might be oversimplified.
